Collection and production of Raily, one of the best known tasar eco-races, has not been steady largely due to not so conducive environmental conditions for the host plants and shrinkage of the forest cover in its natural abode, Bastar in Chhatisgarh. A study undertaken to identify a suitable substitute home to this eco-race for its preservation and multiplication in the nature has suggested Chilpi Basin in Kowardha district. Initial results have been encouraging. Presented here is the details of the efforts made and its performance on post-cocoon parameters.
