Parameters of LPO reflecting primary and end stages of oxidation and total antioxidant activity were evaluated in the seminal fluid of young fertile men living in Novosibirsk. By the results of andrological examination and spermogram analysis, various reproductive disorders and abnormal spermogram (pathospermia) were found in 48 patients. Shifts towards activation of prooxidant processes in LPO–antioxidant defense metabolic system were observed in men with reproductive disorders and pathospermia. The results of individual estimation of coefficient of oxidative stress, an integral parameter reflecting the balance in the LPO–antioxidant defense system, attest to the development of oxidative stress in men with reproductive disorders and pathospermia. © 2015, Springer Science+Business Media New York.

Quality of sperm and some parameters of LPO reflecting primary and end stages of oxidation and levels of α-tocopherol and total antioxidant activity were studied in ejaculate samples from 130 men (mean age of 24 years) living in Ulan-Ude, Buryatia Republic. All participants took a part in survey and were examined by an andrologist. The observed peculiarities of LPO and antioxidant defense in Russian men, such as decreased level of substrate supply for the processes of LPO and α-tocopherol, attest to specificity of metabolic processes and development of compensatory reactions of the organism under physiological conditions. LPO processes were more active in Buryat men, which can indicate exposure of cell membranes to toxic oxygen species. However, the observed in these patients significant increase in α-tocopherol concentration reflects adequate functioning of the adaptive and protective mechanisms of the body. © 2015, Springer Science+Business Media New York.

We studied parameters of lipid peroxidation (LPO) in women with infertility, resident of the Republic of Buryatia. The levels of malonic dialdehyde (MDA) were increased in the examined infertile women from Buryat and Russian populations. Reduced total antioxidant activity, activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD), and α-tocopherol levels were revealed in patients from Buryat population; decreased concentrations of reduced glutathione were recorded in patients from Russian populations © 2012 Springer Science+Business Media New York.

Background: Phenylketonuria (PKU) is an autosomal recessive inherited disease associated with impaired metabolism of the amino acids phenylalanine (Phe) and tyrosine. The main criterion for diagnosis of PKU is high blood Phe level determined during neonatal screening. In case where PKU patient is responsive to tetrahydrobiopterin treatment, sapropterin restores the impaired activity of the enzyme phenylalanine hydroxylase, resulting in the stimulation of normal Phe metabolism and thereby enhancing patient tolerance to natural products. Aim: The present open, noncomparative clinical study was initiated to assess the degree and frequency of response after 8-day sapropterin administration and assess the safety of 6-week sapropterin treatment in patients with PKU and hyperphenylalaninemia. Patients and methods: The study enrolled 90 patients with PKU. The criterion of response to 8-day sapropterin therapy was the reduction of Phe blood levels ≤30% compared with the baseline value. Results: Positive response to treatment was observed in 30 (33.3%) patients (95% CI 23.7-44.1). The mean percentage change in Phe blood levels after the 8-day response test period compared to Phe levels prior to dosing was 14.1±28.4% in the overall subject population (95% CI 8.2-20.1) and 44.3±15.1% in the subpopulation of patients with a positive response (95% CI 38.6-49.9). During the study, adverse events were reported in 24 (26.7%) patients in the overall population in 16 (53.3%) patients in the subpopulation who had a response. Conclusion: The study results confirmed the efficacy and safety of sapropterin therapy in patients with PKU, which is consistent with international clinical trials data. © 2014, Izdatel'stvo Meditsina. Results of researches show, that in modern conditions realization of reproductive potential of women has decreased to a level which preservation can lead to adverse demographic parameters. The tendency of the late introduction into marriage, planning of a birth of one is observed, the maximum of two children, increases a share of cancellation of marriages in early reproductive age. And the birth of children at late reproductive age reduces parameters of their weight. Realization of reproductive potential of women, reproduction of healthy posterity are affected with inadequate motivational preferences which updating can improve the combined situation.

Objective: Our aim was to investigate the glutathione-disulfide system of antioxidant defense in men with different body mass index and infertility. Methods: 60 men with infertility were examined - 30 with normal weight and 30 with overweight. 30 fertile men were included in the control group. Hemolysate made from red blood cells was used as a material for study. The level of reduced (GSH) and oxidized glutathione (GSSG), and glutathione activity was determined by enzyme spectrofluorophotometer SHIMADZU-1501 (Japan). Results: In infertile men with normal body weight decrease of GSH to 15.35% was combined with a decrease in the activity of enzymes - glutathione reductase (GR) to 53.41%, glutathione peroxidase (GPO) to 51.44%, and increased activity of glutathione-S-transferaze (GST) to 31.52% as compared with the control group. In the group of infertile men with overweight a decrease in the activity of GR, 56.77% and 56.22% at the GPO on the background of a stable level of GST was detected in comparison with fertile men. The concentration of GSH in infertile group decreased by 20.08%, and the concentration of GSSG increased by 20.38%. Conclusion: It has been established that imbalance in the glutathione system is the most prominent feature in men with infertility and overweight as compared to infertile men with normal body weight. © 2015, Izdatel'stvo Meditsina.
