Although water resources are rich in the Guangxi Zhuang Automomous Region, the spatial and seasonal distribution of precipitation is extreme imbalance as rainfalls always happen in hot season. So, reservoirs play a key role in water use, distribution and regulation. In this paper, HJ-1 clear sky data is used to identify four major reservoirs in Guangxi with the application of single-band threshold method and visual interpretation method. Monthly water monitoring diagram and data of these four reservoirs from 2009 to 2012 have been collected through HJ-1 satellite. A comparative analysis has revealed the reasons for the dynamic changes, changing relationship and regulations in these reservoirs' water areas. Further study has also been made to the year cycle, interannual variability, monthly changes, spatial change and monitoring exception of the typical reservoirs in Guangxi, which will provide scientific and objective basis for agricultural production, reservoir openration, disaster prevention and reduction, waterways management and water supply projects.
