Pestology | Year: 2011

Field experiments were conducted at Regional Agricultural Research Station, Anakapalle during 2005-2008 with a view to evaluate promising genotypes of sugarcane for their resistance to key pests of sugarcane namely early shoot borer, internode borer and scale insect. The genotype Co C 2003-061 found to be promising by recording significantly less incidence of the early shoot borer (6.56 per cent dead hearts), less intensity of inter node borer (1.23 per cent) and scale insect (2.68 per cent) and was closely followed by the genotype Co A 2003-081 in registering lower levels of incidence of key pests. Among the entries tested, genotype Co C 2003-061 registered significantly high sucrose (17.18%) and higher cane yield of 98.33 t/ha.
