A device for the approximation of tissue including a hollow tube housing an inner core. The inner core may be moved within the hollow tube between first and second positions. The inner core comprises a distal tip. When the inner core is placed into the first position, the distal tip extends away from or outside of the hollow tube such that the distal tip may become securely attached to a selected tissue at a desired location. Once secured to tissue, the distal tip is configured to approximate the torn tissue in a selected direction. Associated systems and methods are also disclosed.

A system and method for the percutaneous, autologous transplantation of mesenchymal stem cells and progenitor helper cells (PHC) from bone marrow to degenerated intervertebral discs or joints. This method is designed to be used by operating room staff in a clinical setting to isolate a mesenchymal stem cell population and PHC during the same surgical procedure as transplantation. The method can be used as a two step procedure where cells are harvested, then isolated, then reimplanted at a later time. In addition, experimental techniques are described to determine which bone marrow cells should be removed via negative selection to generate a PHC population most likely to regenerate certain tissue types in-vitro as well as which combination of fibrinogen and hyaluronic acid and which degree of gel maceration provides the best matrix for in-vitro and in-vivo regeneration of joints and intervertebral discs.

Device, system and method embodiments are disclosed herein which provide for the production of a modified autologous platelet solution at the patient bedside for contemporaneous reinjection to the patient. In certain embodiments all of the steps including, but not limited to blood draw, platelet lysis, solution preparation and reinjection to a patient may be accomplished in a single office or clinic visit without relocating the patient. Accordingly, the apparatus, devices and systems disclosed herein generally include a substantially stand-alone machine, device or system which is configured to accept a platelet containing solution, induce lysis of one or more platelet bodies within the platelet containing solution and provide the resulting modified platelet solution in a manner suitable for injection into the patient.

Apparatus, systems and methods for processing a blood sample. One embodiment comprises an isolation container having at least one sidewall defining an interior volume. The interior volume includes a medial reservoir in fluid communication with proximal and distal reservoirs. The diameter of the medial reservoir is less than the diameter of the proximal and distal reservoirs. Therefore, the isolation container has an interior volume which is roughly hour-glass shaped with the medial reservoir being a substantially narrowed portion or channel between two wider portions. The isolation container is configured such that the buffy coat layer of fractionated blood will be located within and may be accessed from the reduced cross sectional medial reservoir after a centrifuge or other processing step.
