During the period of 2007 to 2010, every two days we visited the three cattle grids on the road to the Cap of Cavalleria, where it was possible to observe the fauna that fell into the grids. The first cattle grid is the closest to es Mercadal, the second cattle grid is 300 meters from the first, and the third is a further 700 meters and is closest to the lighthouse of Cavalleria. Therefore, the distance between the first and the third is one kilometer. During this four year period we recovered 118 hedgehogs (106 alive and 12 dead), two turtles, a rabbit, a stone curlew and a snake that otherwise would have died of thirst or drowned when the grids filled with water following rain. The chance to periodically visit an area where hedgehogs are relatively abundant allowed for an accurate estimation of the density of the population in the area and to take notes of their behavior. Throughout 2003, a study was conducted to quantify the mortality of wildlife on the roads of the island of Menorca. The study was based on the results of 4 sampling campaigns (winter, spring, summer and fall). 20 different sectors were sampled,covering the 5 main types of the road network on the island, excluding rural and unpaved road. All sampling sectors cover 102.7 km (40% of the roads on the island) with anaverage length 5.1 km each. Each sampling campaign supposed a 3 times tracking of each sector, so t so that we had 3 replicates per campaign and per sector. Replications took place after 5 to 8 days following the standardized methods for such studies, and depending on weather conditions. After 4 campaigns, we registered a total amount of 1,895 individuals run over. From field work and estimates we can state that 14,583 vertebrates die annually in road accidents, most of which species of birds Passeriformes (over 6,500) and hedgehogs -Atelerix algirus- (2,160). In this paper the geoenvironmental description of the dunar system is Codolar Ibiza are given. This area are located in the Natural Park of Ses Salines Ibiza and Formentera (Balearic Islands). This beach-dune system was unknown and it is unique in Eivissa, it is disconnected from its power supply, constituting a eolian sand sheet. The sandy beach is now covered by various pebbles and gravel bars. The dune system, separated from the beach are highly regressive symptoms, where you can see the fragmentation of the system in the presence of two nuclei independent sandy of each other in another moment they were all one, of much greater share current. In addition to the geomorphological description also includes a floristic and a brief discussion of the characteristics of the vegetation. Source

The texture of the Es Codolar gravel beach, South of Ibiza, was analyzed from samples in four sections of the beach. In each section two samples have been taken: one from the upper berm and another from the lower one. A total of 400 pebbles and cobbles were measured. The distribution of shingles, their grain size and sorting have been analyzed. Shingle shape has been parameterized trough the Zingg diagram, the Wadell roundness index, the maximum projection of sphericity and the Oblate-Prolate Index. The results show a clear gradient both in grain size, roundness and the shingles sphericity from Southeast to Northwest. This clearly indicates that the source of sediment supply are located at Cap Falcó detachments, Transport is produced by long shore drift towards the Northwest and he result is the formation of a shingle barrier that closes a wetland that nowadays currently occupy by the Salinas of Ibiza. Beach-dune systems are undoubtedly one of the most distinctive physiographic features of the Mallorcan coastline. Although these from some decades ago have been so strongly associated with socio-economic activity linked to the sun and beach tourism industry, its interaction with the man goes back centuries ago. A reason for the recent studi of reforestation of Menoca dunes and applying a simple methodology for sampling that an important part of the dunes on the island are forests, which comprised mainly Pinus halepensis Mill., have a temporary home suspiciously Similarly, giving rise to the importance of thinking the hand of man could play in both aspect and configuration of your current reality plant, indicating trends of positive discrimination in terms of the presence of this species. This paper aims to show the modifications of the woods P. halepensis associated with some coastal dune systems in the island have suffered over the decades. To this end, representative samples analyzed for each of the systems, which from its analysis can draw some important considerations that show both the historical evolution of these environments.
