Chamfering mold is one of the effective methods for controlling the transverse corner cracking of slab. However the longitudinal corner cracking will occur in slab with chamfering mold, which is the most critical hinder for wide usage of chamfering mold. The effects on longitudinal corner cracking of chamfered slab of process parameters and equipment accuracy as well as spray nozzle blocking are analyzed. The formation mechanism of longitudinal corner cracking has been found. Research shows that, the main causes of longitudinal corner cracking are the inconsequence taper of narrow face, the deviation of 0 and 1 section connection and spray nozzle clogging. Through effective measures, chamfering mold can be extensively applied to industry manufacture as the percentage of occurrence for longitudinal corner cracking of CC slab is reduced below 0.6%. ©, 2015, Chinese Society for Metals. Al-Mg-Si alloy is used to investigate the bake-hardening response as automotive body panels. Natural aging followed by artificial aging at 170 °C was carried on to study the effect of delaying at room temperature. Two methods are carried on to investigate the effect of pre-treatment on hardening response of Al-Mg-Si alloy. One is pre-aging in the range 80-140 °C followed by artificial aging at 170 °C after natural aging for the same periods, and the other is retrogression treatment followed by artificial aging at 170 °C after natural aging for the same periods. The properties of the alloy are tested by Vickers hardness measurements. And it is found that the optimal pre-ageing is 170 °C for 30min and the opimal retrogression treatment is 230 °C for 15s. © (2014) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

Based on the standard of the residual time distribution curve (RTD curve); the flow control devices in the slab tundish were optimized by numerical simulation method. The results show that the volume fraction of plug flow region is increased 17. 15% and the volume fraction of dead region is decreased 2. 2% after increasing of dam and weir distance of original tundish. It is also available to increase average residence time. The optimized tundish has been used stably, for pipeline steel, the qualified percent of inclusion is increased more than 5%, and metallurgical function of the tundish is improved greatly. The results of bulk sample electrolysis experiment show , total amount of inclusion after optimization is 41. 75% of original averagely, which illustrates flow field of tundish after optimization is more better and helpful for floating removal of the inclusion.

A chamfering mold technology was brought forward to remove the transverse corner crack of continuous casting slab. Numerical simulation and industrial experiment of chamfering mold show that the corner temperature of chamfered slab can be increased more than 70 °C at straightening section, which escape the high temperature inductile zone of steel. At the same time, the structure of bevel edge can decrease the Z-direction stress of continuous casting slab to control the transverse corner crack.
