Objective: This study aimed to evaluate whether fluvastatin therapy could decrease the probability of atrial fibrillation (AF) progression from paroxysmal AF to permanent AF and decrease the recurrence frequency of AF. Methods: Analyses were performed using two-tailed Student’s t test or Mann-Whitney U tests. Categorical variables were compared with the χ2 statistics or Fisher’s exact test. Patients with paroxysmal AF were randomized case-control, prospective into either the fluvastatin group (n=61) or control group (n=57). Patients were followed up for 24 months. The primary endpoint event was paroxysmal AF that progressed to permanent AF. Secondary endpoints were AF recurrence, cardiac dysfunction, stroke, or death. Results: There were no differences in AF progression (fluvastatin group, 8.19% vs. control group, 12.51%; p>0.05) and stroke (fluvastatin group. 6.55% vs. control group. 8.77%; p>0.05). Patients in the fluvastatin group had a lower rate of AF recurrence (fluvastatin group, 24.59% vs. control group, 49.12%; p<0.05) and a lower rate of cardiac dysfunction (fluvastatin group, 6.55% vs. control group, 19.29%; p<0.05). Death did not occur in both the groups. After 1 week of fluvastatin therapy, C-reactive protein (CRP) and homocysteine (HCY) levels were lower in the fluvastatin group than in the control group. At 24 months of follow-up, CRP and HCY levels remained lower in the fluvastatin group than in the control group. The number of endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) increased in the fluvastatin group compared with that in the control group (fluvastatin group, 72.27±12.49 counts/105 vs. control group, 57.45±8.24 counts/105, p=0.001). Conclusion: Fluvastatin therapy could not decrease AF progression. However, it could decrease the recurrence frequency of paroxysmal AF and cardiac dysfunction. This may occur because of depressing inflammation and improving circulating EPCs. © 2017 by Turkish Society of Cardiology.

Objective: To investigate the effect of injecting the methylprednisolone in the ear for the sudden deafness and the improvement of speech discrimination test. Methods: 50 inpatients with a sudden hearing loss were recruited. Inject the methylprednisolone in the subperiosteal of the ear which is 0.5 cm distance to the ear ditch every three days. Methylprednisolone was placed for fifteen days. Simultaneously vasodilation, neurotrophic, thrombolysis and insulin hypoglycemia were administered in all patients. Pure tone test and speech discrimination test were conducted at Days 7 & 14 after intervention. Results: The outcome was as follows: cure (n = 8), efficacy (n = 9), effect (n = 18) and no effect (n = 15) respectively. The overall effective rate of 70%. The improvement of pure tone threshold and speech discrimination had significant statistical difference (P < 0.05). Conclusion: The therapy of postaural methylprednisolone injection can decrease pure tone threshold effectively and increased speech discrimination with a sudden hearing loss. © 2015, E-Century Publishing Corporation. Background: Ceramic-on-ceramic total hip arthroplasty can be applied to young patients requiring frequent activity and high quality of life. Objective: To explore the short-term efficiency of ceramic-on-ceramic total hip arthroplasty in young and middle-aged patients of femoral neck fractures. Methods: Fifty-one young and middle-aged patients under 50 years old with ceramic-on-ceramic total hip arthroplasty were selected to analyze the function of hip joints and the complication after operation. Results and Conclusion: All the patients were followed up for 6 months to 44 months. At the last follow-up, the average Harris score was 92.0±3.4 points with an excellent and good rate of 94.1%. No dislocation was observed and three cases exhibited mild limping. Imaging examination showed that, no prosthesis loosing, broken, sinking or radiolucent line around prosthesis was observed. Ceramic-on-ceramic total hip arthroplasty in young patients with femoral neck fractures can effectively decrease the osteolysis, prosthesis loosing and sinking caused by the debris of wearing, prolong the working life of the prosthesis, and improve the patient's quality of life.

Dynamic analysis on landscape map is to study ecological structure of landscape by using the information of landscape type map as basic data. In this paper, Qinhuangdao City is the study area, Arc / Info, Fragstats and some other software are the technical support. Based on the establishment of landscape type map, this paper extracts landscape indices like density size and size difference index, edge index, diversity index, concentration and scattering index, etc. It also analyzes land cover landscape structure and evolution processes of different landscapes in different periods of time, in order to reveal the variation rule of their spatial patterns. © 2012 IEEE.

The A disintegrin and metalloproteinase 9 (ADAM9) protein has been suggested to promote carcinoma invasion and appears to be overexpressed in various human cancers. However, its role has rarely been investigated in gliomas and, thus, in the current study we have evaluated ADAM9 expression in gliomas and examined the relevance of its expression in the prognosis of glioma patients. Clinical characteristics, RNA sequence data, and the case follow-ups were reviewed for 303 patients who had histological, confirmed gliomas. The ADAM9 expression between lower-grade glioma (LGG) and glioblastoma (GBM) patients was compared and its association with progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) was assessed to evaluate its prognostic value. Our data suggested that GBM patients had significantly higher expression of ADAM9 in comparison to LGG patients (p < 0.001, t-test). In addition, among the LGG patients, aggressive astrocytic tumors displayed significantly higher ADAM9 expression than oligodendroglial tumors (p < 0.001, t-test). Moreover, high ADAM9 expression also correlated with poor clinical outcome (p < 0.001 and p < 0.001, log-rank test, for PFS and OS, respectively) in LGG patients. Further, multivariate analysis suggested ADAM9 expression to be an independent marker of poor survival (p = 0.002 and p = 0.003, for PFS and OS, respectively). These results suggest that ADAM9 mRNA expression is associated with tumor grade and histological type in gliomas and can serve as an independent prognostic factor, specifically in LGG patients. © 2016 by the authors; licensee MDPI, Basel, Switzerland.

But they received no previous intervention and were assigned to treatment and control groups. Treatment group were made by microcatheter connected with an insulin bump. Microcatheter was placed in a round window niche and methylprednisolone (62.5 mg/ml) infused at a rate of 10 microl/h for 14 days. Then the microcatheter was extracted. Simultaneously vasodilation, neurotrophic, thrombolysis and insulin hypoglycemia were administered in all patients. Pure tone test was conducted at Days 10 and 20 after intervention. The outcome was as follows: cure (n = 6), efficacy (n = 19), effect (n = 12) and no effect (n = 11) respectively. The overall effective rate of 77.08% in the treatment group was superior to that in the control group. And there was statistical difference (P < 0.05). Pure tone average (PTA) of two groups showed no statistical difference. After 10 days, the PTA values were (66 ± 21) versus (76 ± 14) dB in the treatment and control groups respectively. At Day 20, the values were (50 ± 16) and (59 ± 12) dB respectively. The improvement of pure tone threshold at Days 10 and 20 had significant statistical difference (P < 0.05). Neither group had hypoglycemia or diabetic complications during treatment. And the prognosis had no obvious correlation with the severity of diabetes. The therapy of intratympanic methylprednisolone injection by microcatheter connected with micropump is both effective and feasible in diabetics with a sudden hearing loss.

We described a facile method for assembly gold nanochains by using octreotide acetate as template in aqueous environment. In acidic solution, octreotide acetate was conferred positive charges and its structure changed to chain-like. The monodisperse negative gold nanoparticles were bound to the surface of octreotide acetate template by electrostatic attraction and the interaction of gold nanoparticles with amino acid residues (tryptophan and lysine). The fabricated gold nanostructure presented chain-like observed by transmission electron microscopy. The cytotoxicity of gold nanochains was examined by tetrazolium dye-based microtitration (MTT) assay, which demonstrated significantly less toxicity than that of octreotide acetate alone. The MTT assay also reflected the combinative action between the gold nanoparticles with octreotide acetate. Our work lays the groundwork for developing octreotide acetate-templated nanomaterials that can be used as a building block for the creation of nanomaterials. Meanwhile, the harmfulless gold nanochains have great application prospects in the biomedical filed. © 2013 Jing Zhou et al.

The p53 protein is closely involved in the carcinogenesis of many kinds of cancers. Though the prognostic role of p53 expression for the survival of colorectal cancer (CRC) patients has been preliminarily identified, the prognostic effect of p53 expression in patients with completely resected CRC is still unclear. Therefore, a retrospective cohort study was performed to assess the prognostic role of p53 expression for overall survival in patients with completely resected CRC. A total of 153 patients (mean age 50.9 years) with completely resected CRC was finally included in the retrospective cohort study. Kaplan-Meier product-limit methods and log-rank test were used to estimate overall survival distribution and test the difference. In addition, multivariable analysis by Cox regression model was also used to test the prognostic role of p53 expression on overall survival by adjusting for other confounding factors. Of those 153 CRC patients, 62 (40.5 %) were positive for p53 protein expression in the tumor tissues. The log-rank test showed that there was an obvious difference in the overall survival between the p53-positive group and the p53-negative group (P < 0.001). Multivariable analysis by Cox regression model further showed that p53 protein expression was an independent predictor of shorter overall survival in patients with completely resected CRC (hazard ratio [HR] = 1.77; 95 % confidence interval [95 % CI] 1.15–2.71, P = 0.009). Therefore, p53 protein expression in the tumor tissue is an independent predictor of shorter overall survival in patients with completely resected CRC. © 2014, International Society of Oncology and BioMarkers (ISOBM).
