Metformin, one of the most widely used antidiabetic drugs, has recently been associated with potential antitumorigenic effects. In this study, we evaluated the possible cytotoxic impact of combined low doses of metformin and ionizing radiation (IR) on 2 human hepatoma cell lines. The cytotoxic effect of metformin combined with IR was subsequently determined by clonogenic survival and cell cycle assays, assessment of mitochondrial complex I and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) activity, measurement of cellular adenosine triphosphate (ATP) levels, comet assay and analyses of the formation and disappearance of phosphorylated histone H2AX (γ-H2AX) protein. The combination of metformin and IR caused a much stronger cytotoxicity than the treatment with metformin or IR alone, leading to an ∼80% decrease in cell viability and ∼35% increase in the accumulation of cells in the G2/M phase of the cell cycle in the 2 hepatoma cell lines. In addition, a reduction in mitochondrial complex I activity (∼70%) and a significant increase in LDH activity, as well as lactate production were observed in the cells exposed to metformin. Interestingly, a severe depletion in ATP, increased olive tail moment and the delayed disappearance of γ-H2AX expression were detected in the hepatoma cells treated by metformin plus IR. These findings show that the combination of a low concentration of metformin and IR results in the considerable enhancement of cytotoxic effects in human hepatoma cell lines, leading to decreased DNA repair by reducing ATP production. The data provided in this study may elucidate the remarkable efficiency of this combination treatment and suggest that metformin may be used as a potential adjunct to the radiotherapy of hepatocellular carcinoma.

This paper proposes a block Mean-Shift algorithm based on target real-time update and LBP texture features, through the target update improves the accuracy of target tracking, enhances the local character of the target through the target block, so as to improve the robustness of algorithm based on skin color backgrounds. Intelligent transportation system to all aspects of organic integration of human, vehicle, road and environment of the transport system, so that the operation of functional integration and intelligent vehicle, road. Intelligent transportation system (ITS) to improve the efficiency of traffic system by increasing the effective use and management of traffic information is mainly composed of information collection and input, output, control strategy, implementation of the subsystems of data transmission and communication subsystem. The RFID reader to wireless communication through the antenna and RFID tag can achieve a write operation on the tag identification codes and memory read data. The paper proposes research on building intelligent transportation system based on RFID technology. Experimental results show that ITS system can effectively improve the traffic situation, improve the utilization rate of the existing road resource and save social cost. © 2013 by IFSA.

One main advantage of ontology is the ability to support the sharing and reuse of formally represented knowledge by explicitly stating concepts, relations, and axioms in a domain. But traditional ontology construction is time-consuming and costly procedure. In this paper we present using Bayesian network and learning for building ontology-based information systems. In order to address this research issue, this paper proposes a novel method consisting of Bayesian Network and learning probability theorem to automatically construct ontology. RDF is recommended by W3C and can deal with the lack of standard to reuse or integrate existing ontology. The experimental results indicate that this method has great promise. © 2011 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

This paper studies the feature based face detection algorithm. Based on the principal component analysis, feature vector space is extracted to construct weak classifier. Combined with Adaboost algorithm to construct the strong classifier, an algorithm for face detection is presented. The performance of the algorithm is tested based on MIT+CMU face database, the results show that the algorithm in the running time and detection accuracy is significantly better than the algorithm based on neural network and support vector machine algorithm. © 2014 IEEE.

Cognitive Radio Ad Hoc Network (CRAHN), established on the cognitive radio environment, configures the Ad Hoc Network which possesses the internal capacity. How to effectively control the power consumption is an important issue in the CRAHN for CRAHN's main power type is battery. At present, the energy-saving routing research in CRAHN is mainly based on the real-time routing mechanism. It means that it should be routed again after transferring an archive. In order to increase the network route's surviving time and save the power consumption, it introduces a routing mechanism whose purpose is to optimize the communication algorithm's performance by improving the existing routing mechanism in the Ad Hoc network. © (2014) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

Aiming at problems of poor contrast and blurred edges in degraded images, a novel enhancement algorithm is proposed in present research. The algorithm utilizes wavelet-based image fusion to accomplish the duplex enhancement task. Experiment results prove that the proposed enhancement algorithm can efficiently combine the merits of histogram equalization and sharpening, improving both the contrast and sharpness of the degraded image at the same time. © (2012) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

Fuzzy clustering analysis is a clustering algorithm based on function best practices, technology and optimal cost function using calculus. Fuzzy clustering, each sample is no longer belong to a class, but belong to a certain degree of membership of each class. In this paper, Web log sequential pattern mining knowledge gained, and visitors have the same browsing mode access to cutting the interaction of users with the Web information space. The paper presents analysis of Web log data mining based on improved fuzzy clustering algorithm.
