The determination of dicyandiamide and melamine in chemical fertilizer is performed by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) in this study. The effective detection method is established through the optimization of chromatographic conditions. The optimal detection conditions are determined as follows: 0.01 mol/L of ammonium acetate-acetonitrile (95: 5, V/V) as mobile phase and detection wavelength at 205 nm. The good linearity is in the range of 1 μg/mL to 80 μg/mL. The detection limit of dicyandiamide and melamine are 0.5 μg/mL and 1.0 μg/mL, respectively. The recoveries range from 95.3% to 100.4%. The method has simple operation and rapid analysis. The results are accurate and reliable with good repeatability and reproducibility, which makes HPLC a good method for determination of dicyandiamide and melamine in chemical fertilizer. Source
