Ferric coagulant has been pplied in waste water treatment because of its high charge and safety. In this paper, it was investigated that the characteristics of ferric chloride(FeCl3) on phosphorus removal from the secondary effluent of AB process municipal wastewater treatment plant. The effect of coagulant dosage, pH and other factors on phosphorus removal was studied The results showed that when the pH value of water was not adjusted, by increasing the FeCl3 dosage from 30mg/L to 75mg/L, the total phosphorus of effluent was reduced from 4.92mg/L to 0.44 mg/L. The TP concentration of effluent could achieve the standards of 'Discharge standard of pollutants for municipal wastewater treatment plant'GB18918-2002 'Grade A (TP >0.50mg/L). © 2011 IEEE. Source

The efficiency of Phosphorus removal of ferric chloride (ionic state), polyferric chloride (polymer state) and ferric hydroxide (gel state) from the effluent of municipal sawage treatment plant was studied. Total phosphorus (TP) in the effluent was 1.74 mg L-1. The results showed that ferric chloride was the best among the three forms of ferric salt coagulants. When the dosage of ferric chloride was 40 mg · L-1, the phosphorus removal rate could reach 90%, and TP in the treated wastewater was less than 0.17 mg L-1. The effluent quality could meet the first level A criteria specified in the Discharge Standard of Pollutants for Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plant (GB18918-2002). while the phosphorus removal rate of polyferric chloride was 62%, the phosphorus removal rate of ferric hydroxide was 59% respectively, and the phosphorus concentration of the effluent couldn't meet the first level A (GB18918-2002) after coagulation treatment with 40 mg L-1 coagulants. Results indicate that different forms of ferric salts have different effect on phosphorus removal rate, and the phosphorus removal performance of ferric chloride is better than polyferric chloride and ferric hydroxide. © 2013 American Scientific Publishers All rights reserved. Based on the raw sewage of municipal wastewater treatment plant, the effect of ferrous iron content in ferric chloride on the coagulation efficiency was studied. The results showed that it is not a linear correlation between the ferrous iron content in liquid ferric chloride coagulation and the removal efficiency of the total phosphorus and COD. When the iron content in FeCl3 was 25%, the dosage of 16.0 mg/L can make the COD and total phosphorus decrease to 195 mg/L and 1.7 mg/L, respectively, at the same time, the removal rates were up to 56.7% and 70.7%. As the ferrous iron content reduced to 0.4%, the COD and total phosphorus removal rates only increased by 1.1% and 1.3%, respectively. Considering cost performance, it is propitious to relax the limit value of ferrous iron content in the products quality standard when choosing FeCl3 as coagulant, thus the production costs can be reduced. This paper tests the raw water sample from the Qingdao sewage treatment plant and studies influence of the ferroporphyrin content in FeCl3 coagulant on coagulation effect. The results indicate that the ferroporphyrin content in FeCl3 coagulant is non-linearly correlated with removal effect of total phosphorus and CODCr in sewage. When the ferroporphyrin content is 25% in FeCl3, 16.0 mg/L addition volume can reduce the CODCr content in the supernatant to 195mg/L, the removal rate reaches 56.7%, total phosphorus content reduces to 1.7mg/L, and the removal rate reaches 70.7%. When the ferroporphyrin content in FeCl3 will continue reduction till 0.4%, the removal rate of CODCr and total phosphorus are only improved by 1.1% and 1.3%. From the view of the price/performance ratio, when the FeCl3 coagulant is used as the raw water coagulation in the sewage, the ferroporphyrin content limit regulated in the product quality standard can be properly relaxed to reduce the production cost of the ferric chloride coagulant. © 2015 Coastal Education and Research Foundation, Inc.
