This paper reviews and analyzes history and the present situation of turbine generator foundation in China for the last ten years. It states dynamic analysis, static deflection analysis and model test technology. By analyzing project examples, this paper introduces the development and application of this technology. In order to advance China's technology of turbine-generator foundation designing, this paper provides reference for designing foundations of turbine generators. © 2014 American Society of Civil Engineers.

In this study, two ring damping devices are installed on two straight web metro wheels. Experimental study on vibration and sound radiation reduction of the ring damping and standard wheels are conducted in a semi-anechoic room. Impact-hammer and steel balls are used to hit the wheels in the test as the excitations. The vibration and sound radiation of the damping and standard wheels are measured and analyzed. The results show that, under the axial excitation, the damping ratio of the damping wheels increases significantly, compared to the standard wheel. The damping ratio increases about 20 times at these prominent resonance frequencies. The vibration and sound of the damping wheels reduce significantly in the frequency range of 0 - 8 kHz. The sound energy level (SEL) of the damping wheel I (with single ring) is reduced by about 7 dB and the SEL of the damping wheel II (with double rings) is reduced by about 9 dB. The maximum reduction in the SEL at the significant resonance can reach about 27 dB.

Using the orthogonal test theory, five full sized tuning mass damped buckling-restrained brace (TMD-BRB) specimens were designed, manufactured and tested. The influence factors included work period, contact surface craft and springs layout. There were 3 levels for work period and 2 levels for the other two. The effects of spring, friction between contact surfaces and force form on the dynamic behavior of specimens were investigated in detail. In addition, the performance of BRBs in the related structures was tested. The tests included free vibration, resonance tests under common seismic intensity and cyclic static tests. Spectral characteristics of specimens, change laws of dynamic coefficients and damping ratios, and hysteretic curves were analyzed. The results showed that the specimens with symmetrical springs and wheels have a high tuning precision, strong TMD properties and standard index for BRB performance to realize a structural balance between composite vibration reduction functions.

For the composite functions of BRB implementation, SRC tube confining the steel core designed as a TMD mass, the core taken as the sliding track, and additional springs added as resilient elements, a new type damper called Tuning Mass Dampered-Buckling Restrained Brace (TMD-BRB) was studied. Results show that it has no affect on the working frequency by slant setting for the component. The TMD dynamic coefficient affects by amplitude, working period and vibration frequency. The contact friction coefficient should be controlled below 0.3. Sliding tests and FEM analysis show that it has a high dynamic coefficient and a stable hysteresis performance by this recommended construction.
