Inspired by the photosynthetic thylakoid membrane of chloroplasts, we present here the rational design of mesoporous structured colloids made up of graphitic carbon nitride nanosheets and demonstrate their application in photocatalytic NADH regeneration for sustainable enzymatic synthesis. Covalent carbon nitride polymers were applied as metal-free robust catalysts for the inactivation of Escherichia coli K-12 (E. coli), a common Gram-negative bacterium, under visible light illumination. The results demonstrated that the creation of antibacterial function on the surface of conjugated polymers has now become possible. © 2014 the Partner Organisations.

Let p be a prime with 6|(p - 1) and integer m ≥ 1. As a generalization of the Hall's sextic residue sequences, we introduce some families of generalized cyclotomic binary sequences over the residue class ring modulo pm by defining sextic generalized cyclotomic residue classes. We determine the values of the linear complexity, which are large enough to resist security attacks using the Berlekamp-Massey algorithm. We also investigate the trace function representation for the resulting sequences when m = 2. © 2012 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

LED chips positioning is a key process in chip quality classification. With the use of pattern-matching mechanism, we proposed a new method for high accuracy positioning system which can be used in detection, sorting and crystal binding machines. Firstly, we used the Otsu and morphological filtering algorithms to gather all kinds of LED chips image. The boundary characteristic points of image were then obtained to bring the feature vector to generate a pattern template. Similar characteristic points were then searched in the sample images to achieve accurate chip positioning. Finally, the Euclidean distance error between the template and target feature vector was compared. As the pattern template is only dependent on the boundaries and independent of the grayscale, the positioning robustness and accuracy can be drastically improved, achieving a positioning error of less than 1 μm and a positioning speed of over 574 grains/second. © (2013) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

A novel algorithm for single image dehazing was proposed. Firstly, the color space is converted from RGB to HIS after the image normalization. The quadtree-segmentation is applied in hue component divided the image into elementary square units which had the same scene depth. The local airlight could be estimated from each square unit. To employ the characteristics of fog, the effects of fog on images are erased by using the optical model of foggy weather. Then the image of the restoration is obtained after the saturation component correction. The main advantage of this algorithm is reat time performance that is can be used in defogging both for color images and gray images. Compared with other algorithms, it is shown that this algorithm is able to restore foggy images effectively.
