The aim of this paper is to measure the concentration of heavy metals (Cd, Co, Pb, Cr, Zn, Cu & Fe) in Mangrove sediments. The concentrations of heavy metals (Cd, Co, Pb, Cr, Zn, Cu & Fe) were measured in different samples of in different Mangroves sediments along the coastal areas of Pakistan and was found that concentration of heavy metals in the Mangrove sediments near to Lyari and Malir river discharge points are at much higher level than the Mangrove sediments of Port Qasim area which are not according to WHO standard and are very are very serious health hazardous. In addition to point sources, possible reasons of non point sources were also discussed. Source

The paper presents heavy trace metals analysis in some widely used medicinal- herbal plants of Pakistan by using Inductively Coupled Plasma. Because these commonly used medicinal- herbal plants from Pakistan are being specifically utilized for the treatment of various diseases, so samples of medicinal-herbal plants were collected from open market and from the fields. Collected samples were digested and analyzed for their nutritional trace metals (Pb, Cd, Fe, Zn, Ni, Cu & Mn) composition and then the results obtained were compared to international and national standards as required by World Health Organizations. The deficiency or excess of the samples for essential trace metals are reported. Source

The aim of this paper is to measure the concentration levels of As and Cd in edible fish from the area of Karachi - Makaran coast, Pakistan. These two metals are very toxic with serious health effects. These metals are released directly through the industrial sewage into Malir River and transferred to fish and then to human beings. It was observed that the high concentration of As in fish flesh samples were most probably due to the presence of significant amount of As in the industrial effluents discharged into the Indus river. The fish of sporadic occurrence also exhibits variable Cd concentrations in the flesh, which do not meet the standards of World Health Organizations. Copyright 2013 Zoological Society of Pakistan.
