In this study, we present the complete mitochondrial genome of P. s. hainanus, which is spread over Hainan Island, southern China and northern Vietnam, containing 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes, 2 ribosomal RNA genes (srRNA and lrRNA) and 2 extensive heteroplasmic control regions. All protein-coding, rRNA genes have more than 99.0% nucleotide sequence similarity with the previously reported individual of P. s. formosae, except for cox3 and CRs. Notably, we found that the nucleotide sequence of P. s. formosae mtDNA has more similarity with P. taivanus. © 2014 Informa UK Ltd.

The circular mitochondrial genome of Alauda arvensis is 17,018 bp in length, containing 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 2 ribosomal RNA genes, 22 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes, and 2 extensive heteroplasmic control regions. All of the genes encoded on the H-strand, with the exceptions of one PCG (nad6) and eight tRNA genes (tRNAGln, tRNAAla, tRNAAsn, tRNACys, tRNATyr, tRNASer(UCN), tRNA Pro, and tRNAGlu), as found in other birds' mitochondrial genomes. All of these PCGs are initiated with ATG, while stopped by six types of stop codons. All tRNA genes have the potential to fold into typical clover-leaf structure. Two extensive heteroplasmic control regions were found, and more interestingly, a minisatellite of 37 nucleotides (5′- TCAATCCCATTGATTTCATTATATTAGTATAAAGAAA-3′) with 6 tandem repeats was detected at the end of CR2. © 2013 Informa UK, Ltd.

The complete mitochondrial genome of Sturnus sericeus is 16,823 bp in length, and contains 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), two rRNA genes, 22 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes and a single control region. All genes were coden on the H-strand, with the exceptions of one PCG (nad6) and eight tRNA genes (tRNA Gln, tRNAAla, tRNAAsn, tRNACys, tRNATyr, tRNASer(UCN), tRNAPro and tRNA Glu), as found in other vertebrates. All of PCGs are initiated with ATG, except for cox1, which is initiated with GTG, while stopped by five types of stop codons. All tRNA genes have the potential to fold into typical clover-leaf structure. Conserved sequences in three domains were observed in the single control region. © 2012 Informa UK, Ltd.

The complete mitochondrial genome of Spizixos semitorques is 17,045 bp long with an A+T content of 55.52%, which composed of 13 typical protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes, 2 ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes, and 2 extensive heteroplasmic control regions (CR1 and CR2). Genome organization of S. semitorques is similar to that of other birds. All of the PCGs started with ATG, except for cox1, which began with GTG. Six types of termination codons were used, canonical TAA and TAG termination codons are found in seven protein-coding genes, while AGA for nad1 and nad5, AGG for cox1, and the remaining genes (nad2, cox3, nad4) have incomplete termination codons (TA-or T-). All tRNA genes have a typical clover-leaf structure. Furthermore, a minisatellite of 24 nucleotides (5′-CACAAAAATCAAACAAAAATACAA-3′) with 2.9 tandem repeats at the end of CR2 were detected. © 2014 Informa UK Ltd.

The complete mitochondrial genome of Phasianus colchicus is 16,692 bp in length and composed of 13 typical protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes, 2 ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes, and 1 putative control region. One extra nucleotide "C" is present in nad3 of P. colchicus, which is found in many other birds and is thought not to be translated. All protein-coding, rRNA, and tRNA genes have more than 99.0% nucleotide sequence similarity with the previously reported individual, except for cox3 and tRNAPro genes which has more similarity with Phasianus versicolor. © 2012 Informa UK, Ltd.
