Introduction: Meckel's diverticulum affects 1 - 3 % of general population and is known as the most common anomaly of gastrointestinal tract. However, its estimated lifetime complication rate is approximately 4 %. Intestinal obstruction is most common complication of Meckel's diverticulum in adult population. Case presentation: In the present study, we reported a 42-year-old female patient with a gangrenous Meckel's diverticulum in a strangulated umbilical hernia sac treated by dissection of diverticulomesenteric bands and diverticulectomy. In 36 months follow-up, there was neither any complication nor recurrence of hernia. Conclusion: This case represents a gangrenous Meckel's diverticulum in a strangulated umbilical hernia sac diagnosed in case of emergency. Although it is a very rare phenomenon, we should be vigilant for this entity especially in case of emergency. © 2010 Sengul et al.

to investigate whether patients with lichen planus (LP) are really prone to urolithiasis or not.We performed a prospective analysis of 40 patients diagnosed with lichen planus (LP) (group I), and 40 volunteers did not have LP before (group II). Participants were all checked for urolithiasis by radiological investigations. Blood samples were analyzed for biochemistry parameters including calcium and uric acid. 24-h urine samples were analyzed to investigate oxalate, citrate calcium, uric acid, magnesium, sodium and creatinine.Men/women ratio and mean age were similar between group I and II (p>0.05). A presence or history of urolithiasis was detected in 8 (20%) and 2 (%5) patients in group I and II, respectively (p<0.05). Hypocitraturia was the most common anomaly with 35% (n:14) in group I. The rate of hypocitraturia in group II was 12.5% (n:5) and the difference was statistically significantly different (p=0.036). In group I, hyperuricosuria and hyperoxaluria followed with rates of 27.5% (n:11) and 25% (n:10), respectively. The rate of hyperuricosuria and hyperoxaluria were both 5% (n:2) in group II and the differences were significant (p<0.05). Hyperuricemia was another importante finding in the patients with LP. It was detected in 13 (32.5%) patients in group I and in 1 (2.5%) participant in group II (p=0.001).According to our results, metabolic disorders of urolithiasis were highly detected in the patients with LP. However, similar to the etiology of LP, the exact reasons for these metabolic abnormalities in LP remain a mystery.

Purpose: To appraise the frequency of cervical cytological abnormalities in a population at normal risk via analysing the archive records of cytology for the period of approximately 9,5 years, comparing them with patient demographic charecteristics, and discuss the results for women under age of 35. Materials and Methods: A total of 32,578 cases of Pap smears were retrieved and analysed from our archive included the Pap tests performed between January 2001 and April 2010 at the Early Cancer Screening, Diagnosing and Education Center by the consent of three pathologists via utilizing the Bethesda System Criteria 2001 and the results were compared with some demographical characteristics. Results: Our rate of the cervical cytological abnormality was 1.83%, with ASCUS in 1.18%, LSIL in 0.39, HSIL in 0.16%, AGUS in 0.07%, squamous cell carcinoma in 0.02%, and adenoarcinoma in 0.006%. Cytological abnormalities were detected mostly in those with higher age, lower parity, and premenopausal period whereas the smoking status was without influence. Bacterial vaginosis (5.6%) was the most frequent infectious finding (Candida albicans 2.7%; Actinomyces sp. 1.3%; and Trichomonas vaginalis 0.2%) detected on the smears. The rate of abnormal cervical cytology was 9.5% among the women aged between 30-34. Conclusions: Early detection of the cervical abnormalities by means of the regular cervical cancer screening programmes is useful to attenuate the incidence, mortality, and morbidity of cervical cancer. Our prevalence of the cytological abnormalities was much lower than the one in Western populations in general but very similar to those reported from other Islamic countries that may be explained by the conservative lifestyle and the lower prevalence of HPV in Turkey. A remarkable rate of abnormal cervical cytology of women aged 30-34 was pointed out in the present study.

Aims: Differential diagnosis between the group of trichoadenoma, trichofolliculoma, trichoepithelioma, trichoblastoma and basal cell carcinoma has been creating some difficulties for the pathologist and the clinicians, particularly in the presence of small specimens. Material and methods: A total of 30 cases of benign tumours of cutaneous appendages originating from the hair follicle and 30 cases of basal cell carcinoma were retrieved from the archives deposited from 2004 to 2008. Results: The expression of CD10 in both tumours was graded from [0] to [2+] for each case. The immunoreactivity of CD10 was comparatively examined among the groups and each subgroup. The stromal CD10 immunopositivity of benign tumours of cutaneous appendages originating from the hair follicle was stronger than the other (p = 0.003) regarding both the numerical and the degree of expression. However, peripheral CD10 of basal cell carcinoma was stronger than the other for [1+] immunopositivity (p = 0.03). It was exact opposite for [2+] (p = 0.013). Besides, central CD10 immunopositivity and CD10 reactivity for the subgroups was not significant. Conclusions: CD10 may be very useful for the differential diagnosis between them particularly in the small and superficial biopsies and it may be even a lifesaving method in some selected cases.

Surface aesthetics of the attractive nose are created by certain lines, shadows, and highlights, with specific proportions and breakpoints. Our evaluation of the nasal surface aesthetics is achieved using the concept of geometric polygons as aesthetic subunits, both to define the existing deformity and the aesthetic goals. Surgical techniques have been developed and modified to achieve the desired surface appearance, and those are detailed in this article. The principles of geometric polygons allow the surgeon to analyze the deformities of the nose, to define an operative plan to achieve specific goals, and to select the appropriate operative technique. These aesthetic concepts and surgical techniques were used in 257 consecutive rhinoplasties performed in the past 3 years by the principal author (B.Ç.). © 2013 The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, Inc.

Context: Pleomorphic adenoma is the most common neoplasm of the minor salivary glands which are uncommon among the entire salivary gland tumors. The lower lip is a very rare site of occurrence for pleomorphic adenoma. We intended to present a case of pleomorphic adenoma of the lower lip. Case Report: A 49-year-old Turkish man presented with the painless mass on his lower lip. A total excision was choiced for the mass by both we and the patient because of some cosmetic reasons. The histopathological evaluation revealed the diagnosis of pleomorphic adenoma and neither complication nor recurrence was observed during a clinical follow-up for 40 months. Conclusions: A clinician should be vigilant for the possibility of existence of a pleomorphic adenoma located on the lower lip even it is rare. Once it is diagnosed concisely, a wide excision is suggested in general if there is no cosmetic care and no risk of damage to functional structures of head and neck.

The lower lip is a very rare emerging site for pleomorphic adenoma. The present review is to accentuate the definition, frequency, clinical and histopathological features, differential diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment choices of pleomorphic adenoma. We reviewed the English-language literature addressing pleomorphic adenoma of the lower lip. The tumors of minor salivary glands are not frequent among whole salivary glands tumors. Pleomorphic adenoma is the most common neoplasm among the minor salivary glands. A wide excision is recommended if there is no cosmetic care and no risk of damage to the functional structures of head and neck. Malignancy of the minor salivary glands are not rare. In addition, malignant transformation of pleomorphic adenoma involved in the benign tumors of minor salivary glands are possible. Thus, awareness of the possibility of existence of a pleomorphic adenoma or a malignant tumor within a mass located on the lower lip has a mentionable importance.

Study Objective To compare the effects of Truview PCD™ video laryngoscopy (TVL) and Macintosh blade direct laryngoscopy (MDL) on hemodynamic responses observed during laryngoscopy and orotracheal intubation conditions in geriatric patients. Design Randomized prospective study. Setting Operating room. Patients One hundred patients in the risk group American Society of Anesthesiologists I to III aged 65 years and older underwent elective surgery under general anesthesia. Interventions This prospective study was performed between January 2014 and February 2015 after institutional ethics committee approval. Patients were randomly allocated to 2 groups, namely, TVL and MDL. Measurements Hemodynamic parameters, modified Cormack-Lehane grade, intubation period, and preoperative examination (age, sex, American Society of Anesthesiologists, modified Mallampati test score, and thyromental and sternomental distances) of patients were evaluated. Main Results There were no statistically significant differences in hemodynamic responses (heart rates and mean arterial pressure) between the 2 groups (P > .05). The median intubation period in the TVL group was significantly higher than observed in the MDL group (t = 4.594; P < .05). The laryngoscopy views in TVL group were better than the views in MDL group. The Cormack-Lehane grade in the TVL group was lower when compared to the MDL group. Conclusion The TVL system does not provide significant hemodynamic response sparing or shorten orotracheal intubation times when compared to MDL in geriatric patients. © 2016 Elsevier Inc.

Tip rhinoplasty is a key component of aesthetic rhinoplasty. An understanding of the correlation between tip surface aesthetics and the underlying anatomic structures enables proper identification and correction of tip abnormalities. Surface aesthetics of the attractive nose are created by certain lines, shadows, and highlights with specific proportions and breakpoints. In this Featured Operative Technique, the authors describe a stepwise process for tip rhinoplasty that conceptualizes aesthetic subunits as geometric polygons to define the existing deformity, the operative plan, and the aesthetic goals. Tip rhinoplasty is described in detail, from initial markings through incisions and dissection. The autorim graft concept is explained, and lateral crural steal and footplate setback techniques are described for the attainment of symmetric domes with correct lateral crural resting angles. Methods in columellar reconstruction are described, including creating the columella (C′) breakpoint and the infralobular caudal contour graft. The principal author (B.Ç.) has applied these techniques to 257 consecutive "polygon rhinoplasties" over the past 3 years. © 2014 The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, Inc.

Ectomesenchymal chondromyxoid tumor is a rare tumor seen in the anterior dorsal aspect of the tongue. Diagnosis of this lesion without a prediagnosis clinically is made only with histopathological findings including the immunohistochemical examinations. However, diverse results are being reported in the literature with keratin staining. While glial fibrillary acid protein positiveness maintain being a fixed repeating feature, we emphasized for our case of a 28-year-old Caucasian woman having the findings of qualities supporting the ectomesenchymal origin of the mentioned tumor. © 2011 Published by Elsevier Inc.
