High temperature carburizing for 20Cr2Ni4A gear steel was studied, and microstructure, hardness gradient and grain size were analyzed. The results show that the microstructure of 20Cr2Ni4A gear steel is composed of tempered martensite and a little of residual autenite after high temperature carburizing, oil quenching plus high temperature tempering and some carbides particle disperse in carburized layer. The surface hardness of carburizing layer is from 58 to 62 HRC. The magnitude of grain size is 8 grade after high temperature carburizing processes.
