We present a comparison of different methods applied to the determination of the ionization potential (IP) of anisole, a fundamental aromatic molecule. A test is made for IP determination by using either the measurement of the onset for ion production on a REMPI-TOF mass spectrometer or an electron imaging spectrometer operating in velocity mapping conditions. The accuracy and advantages of the two methods discussed and compared with the best available spectroscopic data. Thanks to the electron imaging experiments we are determining also both the first vibrationally excited states available for the anisole cation and the angular distribution of electrons emitted in the corresponding ionization processes. © 2010 Elsevier B.V. We report on the determination of the excitonic coupling occurring between the two anisole molecular units bound to form the anisole dimer in the gas phase. The experimental data are summarized and then analyzed in terms of time-independent perturbation theory. The effective perturbation term for the molecular hamiltonian giving rise to the excitonic coupling is determined. The relative relevance of different coupling terms in the hamiltonian of the system is discussed as well. © 2010 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
