Green chemistry as an interdisciplinary subject which could eliminate pollution from the chemical source, has received rapid development in the past two decades. Numerical simulation based on operational research as one of the common optimized tools, has found a wide application in the environmental issues of green chemistry. In this paper, the development, characteristics and resolution procedures of operational research method were introduced and three typical examples which include the utilization of the waste resources, transportation of goods in clean production, and the utilization of clean energy were analyzed and resolved by lingo software. The results showed that the operational research method is an effective tool to solving problems in green chemistry, with advantages of simple programming, operations fast and reliable results. © (2014) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

The representative roads in Shijiazhuang were selected as the research objects, the NOx pollution level in the road traffic ambient air was monitored. The fitting model was created by the Matlab software, then the pollution trend of NOx for the next period was forecasted. The results showed that the hourly average concentration of NOx in Shijiazhuang road traffic ambient air ranged from 0.047 to 0.237 mg/m3, the daily variation presented that the NOx concentration was high in the morning and in the evening, and the concentration in the after-noon was significantly lower than the one in the before-noon. The daily average concentration of NOx ranged from 0.076 to 0.211 mg/m3, and it had a significant positive correlation with the road traffic flow. The ARMA model established by the Matlab software could better predict the concentration variation trends of NOx in the road traffic ambient air.

LINGO software with many favorable features such as convenient operation, high running speed, wide application and valid result, has been widely used in solving complicated issues in environmental fields in the past a few years. In this paper, three practical examples in environmental monitoring were introduced and resolved by LINGO software, the reliability of the results was verified and the comparison with other methods was given. The results show that, LINGO software is useful to direct funds and resources' allocation in environmental monitoring, and it is an effective tool to improve economic benefits and obtain better environmental benefits. © (2014) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

Sewage treatment problem is a typical linear programming problem, and can be solved by method of linear programming. In order to reflect the principle of fairness and make full use of self purification capacity of environment, this paper gives rational analysis of the sewage disposal problems in 2007 Chinese Undergraduate Mathematical Modeling Contest. The mathematical model of linear programming is established, and solved by lingo optimization software. The results show that: by the principle of fairness, investment funds increased; by the principle of self purification capacity of environment, investment funds decreased. The results can provide guidance for decision makers to choose different scheme. © (2014) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

The shortest path problem is a typical mathematical optimization problem which often encountered in the production field and daily life. From the perspective of green transportation, in this paper, the shortest path problem in Hebei Province was put forward that applied the operations research knowledge, and solved the analysis by lingo11.0. The results showed that the shortest path is 2230.00 km that started from Shijiazhuang through each prefecture-level city, then back to Shijiazhuang. The shortest path from Shijiazhuang to Qinhuangdao is 589.00 km. © (2014) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.
