Using particle imaging velocimetry (PIV) technology, gas cold flow field experiments are performed on conditions of different inlet velocities in two kinds of central-dump combustor. The relations are analyzed between flow structures and other factors, such as inflow velocity, expansion ratio, exhaust nozzle etc. Experiment shows 2-D velocity field of combustor can be obtained by means of PIV at high inlet velocity. For combustors of different expansion ratios, the field structures are similar, but the relations of the maximal recirculation negative velocity and inflow velocity are different. At the entrance of exhaust nozzle vortex reappear and the diameter is bigger, but the vorticity intensity is weaker.
