We studied the effects of the tripeptide pinealon (Lys-Glu-Arg) on behavior and caspase-3 activity in the brain of 21-day-old rats that were subjected to prenatal hypoxia. We found that administration of pinealon to females during the entire course of pregnancy increased the survival of newborn rat rats that were subjected to prenatal hypoxia. In these rats, at the age of 21 days the activity of caspase-3 in brain structures was significantly lower as compared to rats that were not treated with pinealon during the pregnancy period. This was probably a cause of the less expressed cognitive deficit in these rats. Hypoxic hypoxia during the prefetal or fetal periods had worse effects on cognitive functions and rat survival. © 2012 Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

For complex planer periodic structures, a system of spectral-domain integral equations is obtained. The unknowns in the equations are the coefficients of 2D Fourier transforms of the current density on strips and the tangential electric fields in slots. The number of dielectric layers, strips, and slots is not bounded. The system is solved by means of the Galerkin method with a basis taking into account the edge singularity. The effects of peptide geroprotectors, such as cortexin and pinealon, on the training of rats of different ages and the caspase-3 system in their brain structures were studied in the experimental model of acute hypoxic hypoxy. Regional changes were identified in the activity and the content of caspase-3 in the cerebral cortex and brainstem structures of young and old rats under the influence of peptide preparations. It is suggested that the functional state of the caspase-3 system in the brain is one of the reasons for the ability of animals to learn. Compared with cortexin, pinealon has a greater positive effect on the learning of both young and old animals in the Morris labyrinth. © 2014 Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

The effects of Pinealon and Cortexin on the behavior and caspase-3 activity in the brain of old rats subjected to the occlusion of the carotid arteries were compared. Administration of the short peptides increased the survival of animals after the occlusion of the carotid arteries. Injection of Pinealon prior to the occlusion of the carotid arteries was associated with longer behavioral sleep and decreases in orienting and motivated behavior, as well as locomotor activity. The rats injected with Cortexin prior to the occlusion of the carotid arteries also exhibited an increased duration of behavioral sleep. Pinealon administration moderately increased caspase-3 activity in both sham-operated animals and rats subjected to the occlusion of the carotid arteries. © Pleiades Publishing, Ltd., 2011.
