A recent public discussion about residues in egg yolk of dioxins of unknown origin focuses attention to emissions from combustion of waste disposal which contains chlorinated compounds contributing to de novo substances in ultrafine particulate matter. Contrary to former mostly visible diesel exhaust particles and epidemiologic evidence of specific health effects relevant research about the sequelae of invisible ultrafine matter containing chlorinated toxic substances has not been satisfactory. Findings of dioxin residues on vegetables and other food components require further efforts of analytic and epidemiologic research which is taking place in different regions of the world. The analytic findings show alarming burdens of the environment as a consequence of the insufficient management of substances owing to de novo synthesis after py rolytic processes of waste incineration containing chlorinated compounds, such as plastic material. The quantitative data in the scientific literature presented indicates the risk presented by the specific effects on human health both via chronic damage of the central nervous system and chronic diseases such as cancer.
