The influence of the rolling parameters on microstructure and texture formation over 01 Yu{cyrillic} steel strip and on its capacity for profound extension is investigated. It is found that the capacity for profound extension in a 01 Yu{cyrillic} steel sample deformed in the austenitic state and cooled in air may be attributed to the higher concentration of small-angle boundaries and special boundaries Σ3 60° <111> than in steel for which rolling ends at subcritical temperatures. © 2011 Allerton Press, Inc.

By plotting histograms and calculating the variation coefficient of the primary drive's torque in the cells of a continuous rolling mill, the stability of the process may be assessed. The elastic torques and motor torques in cells 5-7 of the 1680 mill in strip rolling were measured simultaneously at OAO Zaporozhstal', and the results were statistically analyzed. The motor's electromagnetic torque reflects the frequency properties of the transient process in the mechanical system of the drive and the reaction to technological perturbations, such as variation in strip temperature. By superposition of the motor's torque histograms and calculation of the torque's variation coefficient, the stability of rolling in the cells of a continuous mill may be qualitatively and quantitatively estimated. Numerical estimates of the rolling stability are presented for strip batches with and without intermediate coiling devices. © 2013 Allerton Press, Inc.

New and traditional hot-rolling mills are compared. Calculations show that the position of the intermediate coiling system in traditional broad-strip mills does not permit sufficient efficiency. A new design is proposed to make better use of the strip temperature, produce strip with negative tolerances, and reduce power consumption. © 2014 Allerton Press, Inc.

Sintering machine 1 at OAO Zaporozhstal' has been reconstructed with increase in the sintering area from 62.5 to 75 m2. A vibrational screening system ensures that the content of the -5 mm fraction in skip sinter is 10.1-11.5%. The gas-purification equipment is reconstructed, with the introduction of two electro-filters and absorbers. That ensures compliance with the maximum permissible dust concentration of 50 mg/nm3 and reduces the SO2 concentration to ∼400 mg/nm3. Eirich R19 Konti heavy-duty mixers and granulators are used to prepare the dust for utilization. © 2013 Allerton Press, Inc.

Information is provided regarding the conversion of blast furnaces at OAO Zaporozhstal' to pulverized-coal injection, with gradual reduction in the consumption of coke and natural gas. Since the introduction of a Kuttner pulverized-coal system in early 2013, coke consumption has decreased from 492 to 393 kg/t, with increase in productivity from 7719 to 8779 t/day. © 2013 Allerton Press, Inc.
