Laboratory tests are conducted to determine how manganese-bearing additives affect the metallurgical properties of pellet and sinter batch based on titanium-magnetite concentrates from Kachkanar enrichment facility. The results show that such additives are more effective in pellet batch than in sinter batch. Moreover, the introduction of magnesium in pellet batch permits the formation of a fluxed product, without impairment of the metallurgical properties. This increases blast-furnace productivity by 1.0-1.5%, with analogous decrease in coke consumption. © 2010 Allerton Press, Inc. Source

There is a pressing need to replace natural gas in blast-furnace smelting by other fuels. One option is carbon-bearing emulsion (coal dust + fuel oil + water). The temperature in the tuyere zone is calculated, and the change in reductive potential of the tuyere gas and the heat transfer processes in the upper part of the furnace are estimated.
