The structure and strength and the magnetic properties of 32Х06Л steel subjected to quenching and tempering at different temperatures are studied. Based on statistical-modeling and experimental results, it has been established that coercive-return induction is a suitable parameter for controlling hardness. Another parameter, coercive force, can be used for estimating the phase composition of material. Local measurements of suggested testing parameters are possible with portable magnetic-measurement hardware–software systems of the SIMTEST-2 type. © 2016, Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

Nickel-free 10ΓAΦD{cyrillic}Π1 steel of elevated strength, low-temperature strength, and low-temperature resistance has been developed. On the basis of the new steel, a production technology for rolled sheet and cold-bent profiles (thickness 3.6-5.0 mm) for freight-car production is proposed. In the electrosmelting shop at OAO Magnitogorskii Metallurgicheskii Kombinat (MMK), a batch of the new steel (160 t) has been produced and rolled to 4.5 × 1500 mm sheet in the 2500 mill. Coils of this steel are used to produce bent profiles for freight-car production. The new 10ΓAΦD{cyrillic}Π steel surpasses mass-produced 10XHD{cyrillic}Π 1 steel in terms of its suitability for freight-car components. © 2010 Allerton Press, Inc.

The wear resistance of carbon steels strengthened by plasma hardening in an UDGZ-200 setup is studied using a friction machine. It has been found that the wear resistance of hardened low-carbon steel 15 is equal to ~70% of normalized steel 45, as well as the wear resistances of the hardened medium-carbon steel 45 and the hardened high-carbon U8A steel exceed the wear resistance of the normalized steel 45 by ~60 and ~90 times, respectively. © Allerton Press, Inc., 2014.
