The change in oxidation reaction rate for specimens of four-dimensional reinforced carbon-carbon composite material with an identical level of apparent density and different graphitizing temperature is studied. Ranking of factors governing material oxidation reaction rate is established. The sintering properties of composites consisting of coke and coal pitch are considered. The coke yield from pitch cannot be used to assess the sintering properties. The increase in coke yield from the pitch in the presence of filler is found to be correlated with increase in sintering properties and strength of the composite. © 2014, Allerton Press, Inc.

Means of increasing the density and reducing the permeability of carbon materials by modifying the production methods or switching to different raw materials are considered. Compaction by steeping organic materials in liquid, with or without subsequent heat treatment, is discussed. The density change on steeping is compared with the porosity of the carbon material. The influence of steeping on the properties of the carbon material is considered. In compaction by steeping, the influence of the intermediate graphitization and the thickness of the part on the final density of the graphite is analyzed. The temperature field of industrial furnaces for high-temperature treatment of carbon composite blanks is studied. An error is established for temperature field reproduction within a furnace space. Mechanical, physical, and thermophysical properties of carbon blanks are studied. A safe temperature range is established for completing the production process. A sample of quasi-two-dimensional graphite (QTDG) whose magnetic properties are described within the Dirac fermion model is investigated by the nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) techniques. The broad spectrum of the sample points to a large dispersion of crystallite sizes in this system, which is also confirmed by STM data. It is established that the local diamagnetic susceptibility may substantially exceed the average value over the sample and reaches an abnormally high value of -1.3 × 10-4 emu/g at T = 4.2 K, which is greater than the corresponding value of highly oriented graphite by a factor of four. © 2013 Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.
