A graft copolymer is synthesized using starch as the base additive and AM and AMPS as graft monomers under optimized synthesizing conditions. The synthesized copolymer is further reacted with cationic monomer, acryloxyltrimethyl ammonium chloride (DAC) to produce an environmental friendly amphoteric filtration reducer with superior high temperature and salt-tolerant performance and good filtration control property. Molecular structure characterization with IR spectroscopy shows that fresh water drilling fluid treated with this synthesized starch filtration reducer has filtration rates before and after aging at 150 ℃ of 7.4 mL and 10.9 mL, respectively. After aging at 160 ℃, the filtration rate is 12 mL. Salt water drilling fluid treated with this starch filtration reducer has better filtration control than saturated salt drilling fluid. HTHP filtration rate at 180 ℃ and 3.5 MPa is 22 mL, showing a good salt tolerance and high temperature performance.
