Bauxite has been discovered since 1940's in Guizhou, and the emphasis of the study have been placed on the generation age of bauxite -bearing rock series. In this paper, a lithographic description of central Guizhou -northern Guizhou -southern Chongqing area was given on the basis of nine standard sections of bauxite-bearing rock series, and a detailed statistic analysis was made for sporo-pollen genera and species widely distributed in Carboniferous Jiujialu Formation and Dazhuyuan Formation and middle Permian Liangshan Formation. Based on data available and related geological characteristics, the authors hold that the age of Jiujialu Formation in Qingzhen and Xiuwen of central Guizhou to Zunyi area and their vicinities belongs to early middle Datang period of early Carboniferous, and Dazhuyuan Formation in northern Guizhou -southern Chongqing area should be early Maping period of late Carboniferous.

The metallogenic model and prospecting criteria of sedimentary bauxite deposits in Central Guizhou-South Chongqing region are summarized as follows: Guangxi movement took place at the end of the Silunian and Ziyun movement that occurred at the last stage of the Devonian period, which might both have been in the crust-mantle interaction phase of the E'mei mantle plume evolution. The transportation of a large amount of materials and radiation energy from the mantle plume to the crust led to the rise-and-fall movement of the earth's crust. During this period, large area of the region was uplifted, leading to the formation of the long-term uplifted area. At the end of the Devonian, the pediplanation occured. In the Early Carboniferous Yanguanian period, the climate was humid and rainy. Exposed surface rock in the Lower Paleozoic experienced laterization and cale-laterization. Latérite weathering crust with gibbsite provided sources for the sedimentary bauxite. In Xiuwen and Xifeng-Zunyi sedimentary areas, the bauxite-bearing rock series of Jiujialu Formation formed at the Early Carboniferous Datang Stage. Suiyang-Zheng' an-Daozhen sedimentary area deposited bauxite ore-bearing rock series of the Dazhuyuan Formation in the Maping period which, after the formation of the limestone of the Late Carboniferous Huanglong Formation, generated calc-laterization. As the deposition region formed different parent rocks containing gibbsite-laterite weathering crust, the deposited bauxite ore-bearing rock series have different chemical and mineral compositions.

Early Carbonaceous sedimentary bauxite and its aluminum-bearing rock series in the Zunyi bauxite belt have totally undergone sedimentation-accumulation on the slighdy southward inclined plantation formed during the late Devonian and Early Carbonaceous Ziyun movement, and the high- and low-ferrous bauxites apparendy assume zonation. Original materials of bauxites and the ore-bearing rock series consist dominandy of gibbsite laterite crust formed by illite shale of the Lower Ordovician Meitan Formation. The zonation of bauxite is related to the material-transport distance of the laterite crust, i.e., the high-ferrous bauxites occur in nearby and high places, and the low-ferrous bauxites appear in distant and low places. Generally speaking, the transport distance is relatively short? and the bauxites were formed by the near -source transport, sedimentation and accumulation.

The central Guizhou-southern Chongqing area had experienced peneplanation at the beginning of Ziyun Movement before the end of the Devonian. In the deposition process of the Carboniferous bauxite-bearing rock series, the lower bauxite-bearing rock series (iron-clay rock) was mostly offshore lake facies, and the upper bauxite-bearing rock series (aluminous rock) was mostly offshore plain facies. In this environment, the influence and reformation of ingression and strong storm surge were frequent. Thus, there exsited a few marine plant fossils (brachiopoda) and marine microfossils (acritarch and conodont) in the bauxite-bearing rock series, which mostly deposited in a continental environment. And there were less marine carbonate lens in the lower (iron-clay rock segment) and the upper (aluminiferous rock segment) bauxite-bearing rock series, suggesting obvious characteristics of marine deposition. All these phenomena indicate that the formation environment of the bauxite-bearing rock series in central Guizhou-southern Chongqing area was very diverse and complex. It was affected not only by continental sedimentary environment but also by other factors.
