Biosafety disposal of waste drilling fluids was studied for their use in areas of network of rivers. Three key technologies were studied, which were solids-liquid separation by gel breaking, coagulation of effluent, and solidification of waste sludge. To break the gel of water drilling fluid, 2% YH was added into the waste drilling fluid with pH of 6.0 to allow them to react for 10 min, after which the solids were flocculated out. Three additives, 0.1% YM, 3% YY and 0.5% YF were used for solids-liquid separation, producing a colorless and transparent liquid phase. Another three additives, 8 kg/m3 YB, 20% YC and 15% YD were used for coagulation of effluent, which produced coagulated solids of moderate hardness and a liquid that was colorless and transparent. A process for the treatment of water drilling fluid was established, along with a set of device for field use. The technology has been used in the Block ZW, with effluent and leachate conforming to the relevant national standard. ©, 2014, North China Petroleum Administration Drilling Technology Research Institute.
