This paper outlines the most recent work at nLIGHT Oy (formerly Liekki Oy). We give an overview of the current state of the nLIGHT active fiber fabrication technology, discuss the capability of the manufacturing process, and review our results and the results of other groups on the reliability aspects of the manufactured fibers. The invention relates to a bundle for fiber lasers, wherein two optical fibers (10, 14) attached to each other exclusively by a removable bridging element (11) along a section of their length, the two optical fibers being freed from each other in at least another section of their length. The bridging element comprising silica glass, which has a refractive index essentially the same to that of a material of an outer layer of the two optical fibers, and the bridging element is a sacrificial layer (19) deposited on only one of the two optical fibers, a material of the sacrificial layer being doped so as to increase a wet etching speed of the sacrificial layer as compared to a material of the two optical fibers in order to be more easily removable.
