The nature of variable range hopping (VRH) conductivity which is observed in the insulating state of doped rare-earth manganites with perovskite structure is considered in the two component model of metallic-like droplets embedded in dielectric matrix. When the density of the metallic droplets is less than the percolation limit, the system falls into the insulating state with VRH conductivity defined by inter granular tunneling and electrostatic barriers. With temperature increasing the VRH regime is transforming into the hopping regime of small radius polarons. © 2012 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Differences are revealed in the microstructure, superplasticity, and internal friction properties of superplastic specimens of alloys Al - 4.9% Mg - 0.6% Mn and Al - 4.9% Mg - 0.6% Mn - 0.25% Cr. The dynamics of structural changes during alloy superplastic deformation are studied. The influence of energy walk-off in an acoustic beam on the characteristic of anisotropic Bragg diffraction of light has been investigated by the example of paratellurite crystal. The angular and frequency characteristics of acousto-optic diffraction have been calculated in wide ranges of ultrasound frequencies and Bragg angles using the modified Raman-Nath equations. It is shown that the walk-off of an acoustic beam may change (either widen or narrow) significantly the frequency and angular ranges. The calculation results have been experimentally checked on an acousto-optic cell made of 10.5°-cut paratellurite crystal. © 2014, Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.
