Using optical microscopy (OM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), X-ray diffractometer (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX), influences of pressure on microstructure and mechanical properties of the squeeze casting AZ91-1 Ca alloys were investigated. Effects of pressure on grain refinement and casting defects in the alloy were analyzed theoretically. Mechanism of grain refinement and defect elimination in AZ91-lCa alloy during squeezing casting process were described. © 2017, Journal Office of Special Casting and Nonferrous Alloys.
