The thin plate that uniaxial tensile stress loaded was used as the object of this article. It adopts the critically refracted longitudinal (LCR) wave that is based on the improved acoustic-elasticity theory and advanced measurement technique to characterize the relative stress level in different parts of the thin plate by studying the relationship between the stress and the velocity. This article proved its applicability of LCR wave measurement technique of plate residual stress by compared with the result of X-ray diffraction method. © 2015 Taylor & Francis Group, London.
