The European Environmental Noise Directive END requires harmonized prediction methods for the major environmental noise sources. Currently two potential candidates are discussed for the modelling of aircraft noise: the 3rd edition of ECAC Doc.29 was published in 2005 describing a recommended method for the prediction of aircraft noise around civil airports. The German AzB model published in 2008 was developed as a tool for the enforcement of the revised GermanAct for Protection against Aircraft Noise that came into force in 2007. This paper gives a comparative overview on both methods, the underlying acoustic and aircraft performance models and their usability for different fields of application. © 2010 Institute of Noise Control Engineering.

Modern aircraft noise prediction methods afford a tremendous amount of work to convert flown flight patterns into model data which can be used for calculations. Especially for existing situations this procedure could be much quicker and errors could be avoided, if prediction methods would allow the direct use of radar tracks. During this study the efficient use of radar tracks (STANLY and FANOMOS) was evaluated and compared against measurement results. There were several difficulties to overcome, such as automatic conversion of coordinates, automatic conversion of UTC time to local time (including DST), assignment of tracks to the correct runway, assignment of emission data, the use of spline and filter functions to adopt the tracks and reduce at the same time the amount of track points, selection of unusable tracks (to short, pattern flights, no emission data).

The toxic load due to agricultural nutrient inputs is one of the current challenges for groundwater protection not only in Germany but in the whole of Europe. Agrarian environmental programs (AUP) can achieve a considerable contribution to the decrease in the nutrient inputs. However, without further development, they do not suffice to secure area-wide the usability of groundwater for the people and the environment.

Completely fluoridated hydrocarbons are designated as perfluorinated tensides. Because of their health-threatening characteristics, their release into the environment is not desirable. In some areas where it is applied, its use is no longer allowed. Moreover, representatives of this group of substances are already verifiable in all environmental media.
