The work described in this paper is to demonstrate the productiveness of implementing Last Planner System to improve construction planning process in an Institutional building construction project in India. The Last Planner System (LPS) has been implemented on construction projects to increase work flow reliability, improve productivity, greater collaboration with field personnel and sub contractors, and completing the project within the stipulated duration and carrying out smooth workflow. Consequently, this research centered on improving building construction processes in India, reports the findings from the implementation of the Last Planner System on an Institutional building construction projects in India. The initial state of production plan reliability within the project was observed to be highly unreliable with a high degree of variability. However as the implementation commenced, production plans were stabilized with an improved reliability in the schedules. The results from this study demonstrate that although an Institutional building construction process is a linear process, a number of benefits were still recorded in terms of improving construction planning and organizing processes, during the implementation. © Research India Publications.

This paper presents a study of the mechanical properties of copper slag fibre reinforced concrete considering the effect of fibre content (0%, 0.5%, 1%, and 1.5%). Also an attempt has been made to establish the relationship between different mechanical and non-destructive test properties of concrete. Furthermore a mathematical model was proposed to determine different strength properties of copper slag concrete with variation of fibre content in it. The suggested model successfully epitomizes the rise of tensile and flexure strength properties of copper slag concrete with increase in fibre content, however a different pattern has been observed in case of compressive strength. In the present experimental investigation, concretes of grade M20 and M30 were used with crimped steel fibres having an Aspect Ratio of 60. © 2006-2015 Asian Research Publishing Network (ARPN).

This paper presents a user alertness identification system based on fatigue detection. The user may be a person like computer operator, operating critical operations on distant machines, hands free interaction with computational devices/machines, controlling heavy machineries like cranes or performing time critical operations like air traffic controlling etc. Same system can also be employed to detect and notifying the driver vigilance level and hence to avoid possibility of road accidents. The proposed system uses the time-efficient image processing techniques to measure eyes closer count, blinking rate of eye and user yawning as the parameters to conclude user's fatigue. The proposed system continuously captures the image of the subject on site using web camera and detects face region, then focuses on eyes and lips using efficient image processing techniques to monitor their behavior. If abnormality either in behavior of eyes or mouth is detected, it indicates that the subject is falling asleep or having state of drowsiness therefore fatigue is detected and a warning alarm is generated. © 2014 IEEE.

Data mining is the analysis of data from data-warehouse using series of mathematical and statistical methods to detect patterns. Such analysis derives important information which has proved the basis of accurate decision making in retail, banks, fraud detection, customer analysis etc. Construction Industry has benefited a little from these analytical tools mainly due to unavailability of work showing the application of these techniques in analysis of data in construction. A methodology to apply decision tree to analyze the construction labor productivity is presented in the paper. The methodology addresses three areas in decision tree construction process. These include selecting more influential attributes, combining multiple attributes and defining the threshold to ignore irrelevant attributes. The methodology gives more realistic results than the traditional method of decision tree. © 2010 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
