A cylinder bore wall insulating member has a contact surface that comes in contact with a wall surface of a cylinder bore wall that forms a cylinder block of an internal combustion engine and defines a groove-like coolant passage, the contact surface being formed of an elastomer or a resin material, and the ratio ((actual area of contact/formation area of contact surface)100) of the actual area of contact to the formation area of the contact surface being 1 to 50%. The cylinder bore wall insulating member can be easily fitted into the groove-like coolant passage.

A rubber/resin composite seal material having a base material of a rubbery elastomer and a fluororesin film that comes into contact with a fluid to be sealed, bonded to the base material with an adhesive. The seal is resistant to deterioration by reactive materials such as plasma, chemicals and heat yet remains flexible and may be repeatedly compressed. The rubber/resin composite seal material may be formed into the shape of an O-ring or other sealing structure.

A heat insulator fastening structure includes: a heat insulator which is configured so as to cover an exhaust manifold; and fasteners which are configured so as to fasten the heat insulator to an object to which the heat insulator is to be fastened, the heat insulator being fastened so as to be displaceable in a predetermined range. The heat insulator has: a single first region which is configured so as to vibrate in the same phase; and a single second region which is different from the first region and which is configured so as to vibrate in the same phase. At least one of the fasteners fastens the first region to the object to which the heat insulator is to be fastened. At least another one of the fasteners fastens the second region to the object to which the heat insulator is to be fastened.

A heat insulation material obtained by sintering a raw material comprising: 52 to 93 weight % of alumina particles having an average particle diameter of 100 nm or smaller, 1 to 45 weight % of one or more crystal transition suppression materials selected from silica particles, silica stone, talc, mullite, silicon nitride, silica fume, wollastonite, bentonite, kaolin, sepiolite and mica particles, 0 to 40 weight % of a radiation scattering material, and 1 to 20 weight % of fibers.
