The influence of strain rate over domains involving the thermal activation and the viscous drag behaviour of the dislocations is discussed. While it is recognized that the Koslky-Hopkinson technique or split Hopkinson pressure bar technique can generate data up to the upper strain-rate limit of the thermalactivated regime, it is necessary to use a direct impact Hopkinson pressure bar technique to access the viscous regime. Data generated with this technique are presented for a series of metals, including steel, nickel, copper and tungsten alloys. A micro-machined or micro-engraved safety and arming device for a pyrotechnic train of a projectile to which an axial spin motion is imparted during firing, the device includes a shutter to interrupt the pyrotechnic and being held immobile by at least two locks, a first lock or axial acceleration lock that is released further to the application of the acceleration during firing and a second lock that is a centrifugal lock released further to the spinning of the projectile.

The subject-matter of the invention is a method for controlling the control surfaces of a projectile and the associated projectile comprising incidence steerable control surfaces and comprising at least two control surfaces, each one being rotatable with respect to the projectile around a pivot axis perpendicular to the longitudinal axis X of the projectile, wherein the projectile comprises central means for controlling the control surfaces having at least a spherical shape, a control arm secured to the spherical shape and adapted to rotate the spherical shape, for each control surface a transmission member cooperating with the spherical shape and adapted to transmit to the control surface the rotation movements of the spherical shape, and means for positioning the arm.

An arrow-type sub-caliber projectile has a piercing bar extended by a conical portion, and is surrounded by a sabot made of a lightweight material and allows the firing of the projectile in a weapon. This conical portion has a tip of a heating-resistant material with a diameter less than half the diameter of the bar, the tip being connected to the bar by a support structure having no ballistic effects, the bar having a flat front face substantially to the diameter of the bar.
