A facile regio and stereoselective methoxy-bromination of alkenes using phenyltrimethyl ammoniumtribromide (PTAB) and (diacetoxyiodo) benzene (DIB) as oxidant has been carried out in the present investigation. The IR, NMR and LCMS of all the synthesized compounds have been used to characterize them.

L-Glutaminase [L-Glutaminase amido-hydrolase, EC-] is widely distributed in microorganisms including bacteria, yeast, and fungi. The enzyme has received greater attention and significance in pharmaceutical industry since it is recognized as having potent antitumor activity. The enzyme also has applications in food industries. In the present work an extra cellular L-glutaminase was produced from Pseudomonas fluorescens. The screening of extra cellular L-Glutaminase was done by dye based procedure on minimal agar medium. The conditions for production of glutaminase were optimized by studying the effect of incubation period and different carbon and nitrogen sources. The effect of temperature, pH and substrate concentration on L- glutaminase activity was studied. Maximum activity of enzyme was observed at 37 0C and at pH 8.

Synthesis of flavones using the catalyst DIB under microwave irradiation has been carried out. Excellent yield was obtained in shorter reaction time as these reactions were carried out under microwave irradiation, it reduces the cost and time period of reaction. Dehydrogenation of 2-phenyl-chroman-4-one to 2-phenyl-chromen-4-one using DIB is not investigated so far. Herein we wish to report a mild method for dehydrogenation in microwave which gives better yield of the product in less time. © 2013 RASAYAN. All rights reserved.

Acidity tuning of montmorillonite K10 (mont K10) was achieved by impregnating with dodecatungstophosphoric acid (DTP). The effect on the hydroxyalkylation of phenol was studied at 353 K with phenol to formaldehyde molar ratio of 5. The nature and strength of acid sites were determined by NH3-TPD measurement while the distribution of Brønsted and Lewis acid sites expressed as B/L ratio, was determined by pyridine IR technique. Among various loadings of DTP (5-60%) studied for the hydroxyalkylation of phenol, 20% DTP/mont K10 showed the highest catalyst activity (90% selectivity to bisphenol F with 28% conversion of phenol). Both total concentration of acid sites and the distribution of acid sites in a high temperature region were required for the high bisphenol F selectivity. Our catalyst (20% DTP/Mont K10) could be recycled three times. © 2009 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
