A long time has now elapsed since environmental concerns became an important issue of the business domain. Power saving for the PCs that occupy a significant share among office IT equipment still remains one of the most important considerations. In 2010, NEC set a target of halving its power consumption from the 2005 level. Since then, the corporation has been tackling power saving of PCs and the reduction of CO 2 emissions from various viewpoints, including those from a hardware perspective such as redesigning circuitry as well as from a software perspective such as for incorporation of the "ECO mode" with which the power setting can be changed by a one-touch operation. This paper introduces the measures being applied by NEC in order to save the electrical energy consumed by PCs in the business environment.

This research proposes a new similar information recommendation system focusing on social bookmarking, which organises bookmarks by using tags. Since social bookmarking targets a wide variety of genres of web pages, this research handles the problem where the standard collaborative filtering method cannot offer recommendations with a better level of precision. This paper improves the collaborative filtering algorithm for users of social bookmark services. A user's bookmarks are placed on his/her own classifying space made of tags. These bookmarks are transformed into a degree of similarity for recommendations. The degree is used to compare the personal classifying space with another's space. Comparison with previous studies confirms the superiority of the method based on space classification, in particular, where the cos distance with the distribution weight added is used as similarity between items. A cell (300) includes a cartridge lock (306) at its opening for securing a data cartridge (100) in the cell by locking. A picker mechanism (500) includes a picker arm (521) and an ejection release part (522) for releasing locking realized by the cartridge lock (306). When the data cartridge (100) is to be inserted into the cell (300), the cartridge lock (306) is caused to retract as far as a position at which locking is released by a tapered surface (101) that is provided on the data cartridge (100); and when the data cartridge (100) is to be ejected from the cell (300), cartridge lock (306) is released by the ejection release part (522) at the same time that picker arm (521) engages engagement hole (102).

The deep cell (300) of the present invention is capable of accommodating two data cartridges (100) in a row. In addition, the deep cell (300) includes a regulating member (301) for regulating the storage of two data cartridges (100) and for regulating storage to just one data cartridge (100).

In a magnetic head cleaning mechanism applicable to a magnetic tape apparatus employing a threading scheme, a cleaning brush is driven in a small space; and a magnetic tape apparatus includes the magnetic head cleaning mechanism. The mechanism includes a threading arm to engage a leader block with a leader pin to draw the block engaged with the pin, a magnetic head to conduct data reading and writing operation on a magnetic tape, a rotably supported brush link arm including a brush at a tip end thereof, and a cam gear disposed on the side of the magnetic head relative to a threader track as a transport route of the magnetic tape. Ordinarily, the arm is on the side of the magnetic head relative to the threader track. When the leader block is moved to a position near the leader pin, the arm rotates with rotation of the cam gear to bring the brush into contact with the magnetic head on the threader track.
