Openings in the floor framing reduce the shear stiffness and strength of the floor, and the level of reducing depends on an opening scale, reinforcing members for openings and all that. It is necessary to make consideration of an opening influence in the thick structural plywood sheeted floor framing for working out safety wooden structures. In this study shear experiments of 28 mm structural plywood sheeted floor framings were carried out for non-opening specimen and opening specimen, and grasps the shear property of them. Shear strength and stiffness of the floor framing with opening can be obtained by multiplying the effectiveness coefficients by ones of the floor framing without opening. Source

In this research, drift pined joints with insert-steel gusset plate with lagscrewbolts are proposed, and their flexural test is carried out. When the depths of column and beam are balanced, the joints have adequate ductility. On the other hand, bending fracture of column or shear fracture in panel zone occur when depth of beam is too large compared to that of column. Analytical model of flexural behavior of the joints are also proposed, which gives good agreement with test results. Source

A horizontal framing in a timber structure must keep a vertical load, but also have in-plane stiffness and strength in order to let a horizontal resistance element such as the bearing wall works effectively. In this study, it's intended that we grasp and evaluate the shear property of a thick structural plywood floor with/without floor opening. The thick plywood is used without joist for floor that is effective for the security of stiffness and strength.At first we carried out shear experiments on floor with/without floor opening, and grasped a shear property of them. In addition, we executed tension and bending test of beam-beam joint, shear test of plywood nail,shear test of structural plywood unit wall and grasped a property of those mechanical properties. Furthermore, we suggested evaluation method for shear stiffness and strength of floor with/without floor opening and showed the validity of it. Source
