The structure of the amine tautomer of the new Schiff base derived from 4-benzoyl-5-methyl-2-phenyl-2,4-dihydro-pyrazol-3-one (2) and 4-phenyl-thiazol-2-ylamine (3) was confirmed by means of single crystal X-ray diffraction. The title compound (4) was synthesized and crystals were grown from a mixture of dichloromethane and n-hexane (1:3). Single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis show that the structure is primarily stabilized by strong intramolecular N3-H3A⋯O1 hydrogen bonds [N3-H3A = 0.883(19) Å, H3A⋯O1=1.925(18) Å, N3⋯O1=2.6901(13) Å, with an angle for N3-H3A⋯O1=144.1(17) °] and this leads to the formation of a pseudo nine-membered hydrogen bonded pattern. Elemental analysis, FTIR andNMRanalyses have been employed to characterize the crystal.

The condensation reactions of 4-acetyl/benzoyl-1-(4'- nitrophenyl)-3- methyl-2-pyrazolin-5-ones condensed with sulfamoxole to form bidendate NO donor Schiff bases were studied. The prepared Schiff base ligands were further utilized for the formation of metal chelates having the general formula [ML 2.2H2O] where M = Mn(II), Fe(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and L = Ligand L1 and Ligand L2. These new compounds were characterized by conductance measurements, magnetic susceptibility measurements, elemental analysis, thermo gravimetric analysis, electronic and infrared spectroscopy. Both Schiff base ligands were found to have a monoanionic bidentate nature and octahedral geometry was assigned to all metal complexes. All the complexes contained coordinated water which was lost at 141-160 °C. These compounds were also screened for their in-vitro antibacterial activity against three bacterial species, namely; Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilli and Staphylococcus aureus. The metal complexes were found to have greater antibacterial activity than the uncomplexed Schiff base ligands.

4-Acyl-1-phenyl-3-methyl-2-pyrazolin-5-ones condensed with 2-amino-4(4'-methylphenyl)-thiazole to form Schiff base. These Schiff bases from complexes of type ML2.2H2O (M=Mn, Fe, Co, Ni and Cu). Elemental analysis, magnetic susceptibility, electrical conductance, electronic and Infrared spectral data suggested octahedral structure for the complexes. All the compounds were tested for their antibacterial activity. The result indicates that the growth of the tested organism was inhibited by most of the compounds. These Schiff bases are characterized by elemental analysis, mass spectra, 1HNMR spectra, 13C NMR spectra and FT IR spectra.

Novel Schiff bases and their metal complexes were derived from some hetero cyclic β-diketones with 4-phenyl-2-aminothiazole. All the synthesized compounds were confirmed their structure by Elemental analysis, FT-IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, Mass spectra, TGA analysis and UV spectra. All the compounds were tested for their antibacterial activity. Spectroscopic measurements suggest that all Schiff base metal complexes are of type ML2.(H2O)2 (M=Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, and Cu) and all the metal complexes shows moderate antibacterial activity in the agar cup assay method. © Copyright E-Journal of Chemistry 2004-2011.

Transition metal complexes of Cr(III), Mn(II), Fe(II), Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) metal ions with general stoichiometry [ML2.2H2O] and [ML3], where M= Mn(II), Cr(III), Fe(II), Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II), L= Schiff base derived from the condensation of 2-amino-4(4'-phenyl/methylphenyl)-5- methyl-thiazole with 4-acetyl-1(3-chloro phenyl)-3-methyl-2-pyrazoline-5- ones, have been synthesized and structurally characterized by elemental analysis, molar conductance measurements, magnetic susceptibility measurements and spectral techniques like IR, UV, 1H NMR, 13C NMR and Mass Spectra. All the complexes were found to be octahedral geometry. The ligand and its complexes have been screened for their antifungal and antibacterial activities against three fungi, i.e. Alternaria brassicae, Aspergillus niger and Fesarium oxysporum and two bacteria, i.e. Xanthomonas compestris and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. © Copyright E-Journal of Chemistry 2004-2011.

Potentiometric studies have been carried out on transition metal complexes of Mn+2, Co+2, Ni+2, Cu+2, Zn +2 with hydrazones synthesized from 4-amino benzoic acid hydrazide and 2-hydroxy-1-acetonephthone/2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde. The dissociation constants of ligand and formation constants of its metal complexes have been determined by Calvin-Bjerrum pH titration technique, as adopted by Irving and Rossotti at 27±0.1°C and at an ionic strength of 0.1M in 60:40 (v/v) dioxane water medium. The order of the stability of complexes is Cu+2 ≥ Ni+2 > Co+2 > Mn+2 > Zn +2 for both the ligand AHNEH and AHNMH. All the metal complexes screened for their antibacterial activity. The result indicates that the growth of the tested organism was inhibited by most of the compounds.
