This study incorporated an Android open platform and a physiological measurement module into a mobile healthcare middleware framework integrating multi-interface and multi-parameter monitoring. The proposed framework provides developers with an integrated application system to design a middleware framework for healthcare. This study designs an interface of independent uplink and downlink packet protocol using the Android system and the physiological measurement module to obtain a function for the monitoring of multiple parameters. The proposed system also designs a hardware abstraction layer using Java native interface (JNI) to communicate with transplanted native drivers. Hence, this system used diversified communication methods to provide application software that integrates the monitoring of graphical interfaces and the display of collected numerical data. To integrate with telehealth service systems, this study further transforms the physiological parameters into XML-based healthcare records with compatible CCR standards, to facilitate exchange through a service-oriented architecture (SOA). An Intelligent Tutoring System (ITS) aims to customize teaching processes dynamically according to student's profile and activities by means of artificial intelligence techniques. The architecture of an ITS defines its components where the pedagogical model is crucial, because the ITS complexity will depend on its scope (specific or generic). Our interest is focused on generic ITS that are very complex due to the fact that could be applied to different educational domains. This contribution proposes an architecture for ITS that uses a Competency-based learning pedagogical model, in order to manage the complexity and make them easier to understand, together a diagnosis process for such a type of systems. © 2011 Springer-Verlag. The IEEE 802.11 standard, currently used in wireless multihop ad hoc networks, wastes bandwidth capacity and energy resources because of many collisions. Previous studies have shown that controlling the contention window size at a given node can decrease its probability of collisions. In this paper, we propose an efficient backoff scheme and evaluate its performance in ad hoc networks. Our backoff mechanism that we devised grants node access to the channel, based on its probability of collision for a transmitted frame in comparison with those nodes in the two-hop contention area. In addition, the new stage minimum contention window size is the previous stage maximum contention window size. We use simulation experiments to evaluate the effective performance of our scheme in an ad hoc network. Our extensive ns-2-based simulation results have shown that the proposed scheme provides excellent performance in terms of bandwidth, energy awareness, end-to-end goodput, as well as packet delivery ratio. The Computerized Adaptive Tests (CAT) are common tools for the diagnosis process in Intelligent Tutor System based on Competency education (ITS-C). The item selection process to form a CAT plays a key role because it must ensure the selection of the item that best contributes to student assessment at any time. The item selection mechanisms proposed in the literature present some limitations that decrease the efficiency of CAT and its adaptation to the student profile. This paper introduces a new item selection algorithm, based on a multi-criteria decision model that integrates experts' knowledge modeled by fuzzy linguistic information that overcomes previous limitations and enhances the accuracy of diagnosis and the adaptation of CAT to student's competence level. The gerotor pump is widely used for industrial applications. In this paper, the inner rotor profile is an equidistant epitrochoidal curve, and the outer rotor is generated by the inner rotor profile. This paper discusses an undercutting analysis of the rotor profile, in which the undercutting equations are derived by the theory of gearing. The non-undercutting region is determined by the undercutting curves of the inner and the outer rotors. Numerical examples show that the non-undercutting region on the gerotor profiles only needs to consider the lower part of the undercutting curve of the inner rotor. Besides, the curvature equations of the outer and inner rotors are derived for evaluating the rotor profile properties such as assessing the sealing property and the Hertz stress forecast. The theoretical stress and software simulations proved the stress forecast. The results obtained are important for using the gerotor profile in optimum design. Source
