I incorporate revelation of asymmetric information through shared ownership (partnership) into the Property Right Theory of the firms. Shared ownership is optimal as a joint result of mitigating hold-up and inducing truthful information revelation. Due to the incomplete contracting nature, shared ownership is incentive compatible if it induces truthful information revelation within the relationship as well as when the relationship breaks. Off-the-equilibrium-path incentive compatibility results in the optimality of partnership even for the most efficient type of the informed party. Inefficient investment thus arises. The level of shared ownership depends on the relative magnitude of the information rent effect and the hold-up effect. Shared ownership is robust to semi-truthful information revelation, under which hold-up occurs in equilibrium with an endogenously determined probability related to the revelation strategy. © 2017 Elsevier B.V.


This study explores players’ fright reactions and coping strategies in an immersive virtual reality (VR) horror game. Based on Slater's theory of virtual reality, two dimensions of fear elements in the VR game−the fear of place illusion (PI) and the plausibility illusion (PSI) −were identified by playing a virtual reality survival horror game with a sample of 145 students. Participants reported greater fear toward PSI elements than toward PI elements. Fear of PSI elements positively and strongly predicted disengagement coping strategies and overall fear. Among coping strategies, players mainly adopted approach strategies, followed by avoidance (disengagement and denial), and self-help strategies. A “self-talk” strategy, newly identified in this study, has been reported as an effective means to cope with mediated threat in VR games. Regarding individual differences, sensation seeking and neuroticism influenced participants’ coping strategies and fear. Additionally, males and females employed different coping strategies. Very few students experienced next-day fright, which consists mostly of cognitive reactions and VR-related reactions, such as the Tetris effect and the fear of being attacked from the back. Theoretical frameworks regarding fear elements and coping reactions are proposed to aid future research. Implications for academia, fear conditioning for training, and marketing campaigns are discussed. © 2017 Elsevier Ltd

Visualizing the entire domain of knowledge and tracking the latest developments of an important discipline are challenging tasks for researchers. This study builds an intellectual structure by examining a total of 10,974 publications in the knowledge management (KM) field from 1995 to 2010. Document co-citation analysis, pathfinder network and strategic diagram techniques are applied to provide a dynamic view of the evolution of knowledge management research trends. This study provides a systematic and objective means in exploring the development of the KM discipline. This paper not only drew its finding from a large data set but also presented a longitudinal analysis of the development of the KM related studies. The results of this study reflect that the coverage of key KM papers has expanded into a broad spectrum of disciplines. Literature review is an important but time-consuming task that involves many disparate steps. A simple query to a library database may return voluminous literature that often bewilders novices. We believe the bibliographic techniques developed by the information scientists provide useful process and methods that facilitate literature analysis and review. We thereby developed a citation-based literature analyzing and structuring system, which may facilitate novices to perform tasks that are usually carried out by trained professionals. A field study was carried out to gauge the utility as well as users' perception using a questionnaire adopted from relevant empirical studies. Graduate students participated in the field study are able to publish papers in their first semester by utilizing this system. The utility and usefulness of the intellectual structuring system are demonstrated by the objective evidence of the high acceptance rate of papers utilizing the system as well as the subjective positive response from the users. A system utilization model utilizing the structure equation modeling technique found the task characteristics construct affects the information quality construct, which in turn affects the perceive usefulness of the system. © 2012 Akadémiai Kiadó, Budapest, Hungary.


The calculation procedures and index interpretation of ecological footprint (EF) analysis, a method for assessing sustainable development (SD), have been continuously improved since the early 1990s. To identify potential for further improvement, this study compared the information revealed by existing EF applications for SD assessment with the core concerns of SD and found that intra-generational equity has not been appropriately addressed in the existing applications of EF analysis for SD assessment because the concept of nested open systems has been ignored. This study then argued that the concept of nested open systems should play a critical role in addressing global SD and conducting national EF analysis for SD assessment. Finally, the potential for improving EF analysis for SD assessment at the global and national scales was discussed. © 2014 Elsevier B.V.

Matching two-dimensional electrophoresis (2-DE) gel images typically generates a bottleneck in the automated protein analysis, and image distortion and experimental variation, which reduce the matching accuracy. However, conventional matching schemes only compare two complete images, and landmark selection and registration procedures are rather time-consuming. This work presents a novel and robust Maximum Relation Spanning Tree (MaxRST) algorithm, in which an autonomous sub-image matching method does not require registering or manual selection of landmarks. The 2D gel images are represented graphically. Image features are then quantitatively extracted regardless of image size. Similarity between a sub-image and large image is then determined based on Gaussian similarity measurement inspired by fuzzy method, thereby increasing the accuracy of fractional matching. The proposed autonomous matching algorithm achieves an accuracy of up to 97.29% when matching 627 2-DE gel test images. In addition to accommodating image rotation, reversals, shape deformation and intensity changes, the proposed algorithm effectively addresses the sub-image mapping problem and was analyzed thoroughly using a large dataset containing 4629 images. The contributions of this work are twofold. First, this work presents a novel MaxRST strategy and autonomous matching method that does not require manual landmark selection. Second, the proposed method, which extends 2-DE gel matching to query sub-image and a database containing large sets of images, can be adopted for mapping and locating, and to compare small gel images with large gel images with robustness and efficiency. © 2009 Elsevier B.V. This study applies patent analysis to discuss the influences of the three aspects of patent trait-a firm's revealed technology advantage in its most important technological field (RTAMIT), relative patent position in its most important technological field (RPPMIT), and patent share in its most important technological field (PSMIT)-upon corporate growth and discusses the moderation effect of relative growth rate of its most important technological field (RGRMIT) in the American pharmaceutical industry. The results demonstrate that the three relationships between corporate growth and the three aspects of patent trait are positive, and verify that RGRMIT moderates the three relationships. This study suggests that pharmaceutical companies should enhance their R&D capabilities, the degree of leading position, and concentration of R&D investment in their most important technological fields to increase their growth. Finally, this study classifies the pharmaceutical companies into four types, and provides some suggestions to them. © 2011 Akadémiai Kiadó, Budapest, Hungary.

A helmet apparatus for automated vehicle heading alert includes a carrier detachable from headwear of a driver, a plurality of light emitting elements, a gyroscopic device, a signal processing and decision-making (SPDM) processor, and a power device. The light emitting elements are installed on the carrier and include left and right light emitting elements. The gyroscopic device is installed on the carrier and includes a gyroscope for detecting an operation of a vehicle and outputting gyroscope signals corresponding to the operation. The SPDM processor receives the gyroscope signals to form operation signals, processes the operation signals, performs a discriminant decision-making procedure, generates consecutively discriminant signals corresponding to the operation signals, and drives accordingly at least one of the light emitting elements to turn on, turn off, or flashing. The power supply device is used for supplying power required by the light emitting elements, the gyroscopic device, and the SPDM processor.
