This article discusses the problem of reducing pauses during cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The probability of successful defibrillation depending on the duration of predefibrillation pause is evaluated. Basic problems of compensation for chest compression artifacts are described to reduce pauses during cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Also, methods for analysis of heart rate and approaches for improving algorithms of artifact removal during chest compressions are presented. © 2015, Springer Science+Business Media New York.
