Rare earth elements (REE) have unique physicochemical properties that make them essential elements in many high-tech components. Wet process phosphoric acid (WPA) is considered as a potential alternate source for the production of individual REE or mixed REE oxides. This paper reviews the technical solutions for recovery of REM from WPA. The main methods such as precipitation, Ion-exchange, crystallization and solvent extraction were considered. There are presented advantages and disadvantages of using these methods. © SGEM2015.

General equilibrium constants of extraction process were determined by scope and intercept coefficient method for samarium, europium and erbium using naphthenic acid. The constants of lanthanide naphthenates formation were defined. Equilibrium composition of liquor was calculated by the system of thermodynamic equations. It was established that anion form of naphthenic acid takes a part in formation of lanthanide naphthenates. Potential of using the stoichiometric quantity of naphthenic acid was shown for the process of extraction of samarium, europium and erbium with pH from 3,5 to 5,5 and separation factor at least 2. © SGEM2015.
