Recently, Korean government tries to foster national supercomputing. One of these movements, Koreangovernment makes a plan to installnew supercomputing system. However, installation of new supercomputer system is accompanied by huge budgets. Thus, before deciding to install new supercomputer system, the economic feasibility analysis has preceded. In this study, a cost analysis is made to identify economic feasibility of installed supercomputers. The KISTI Tachyon2 was analyzed by comparing the commercial cloud service of overseas supercomputers. In result, the analysis revealed using supercomputer is more economically feasible than using overseas commercial cloud services. © Research India Publications. Source

A supercomputeris a computer which can solve complex and large-scale problems in computational science. It is considered as a key element to be globally competitive and thus many counties are politically supporting its service and development. Developed countries create various economic values based on sufficient supercomputing resources, and accelerate high-tech researches and grand challenges in various fields that were not possible in the past. This study describes resource allocation policies of major supercomputing centers in the world to efficiently use supercomputers. Exemplary resource allocation policies for grand challenge studies including INCITE, ALCC, and PRAC programs of the US, CHRONOS of Switzerland, and HPCI strategic programs of Japan are examined. And also we surveyed XSEDE of US, HPCI of Japanand the PRACE programs of Europe which aim efficient utilization of supercomputing resources. © Research India Publications. Source
