An original method for the preparation of N,N′-bis(endo-5-norbornen- 2,3-dicarboxy-imidyl) carbonate from endo-N-hydroxy-5-norbornen-2,3- dicarboximide in basic catalyst has been investigated. FT-IR studies performed in order to monitor the reaction allowed the identifying of the laboratory optimal conditions (reaction time, molar ratio). The method requires limited quantities of organic solvents and reagents, leading to an economical and environmental friendly process for the preparation of a new symmetrical organic carbonate.

The selective alcoholic extraction, isolation and characterisation of capsaicinoids from chilli were studied. The paper describes the capsaicin alcoholic extraction, isolation and characterisation by analytic methods (Thin Layer Chromatography - TLC, High Performance Liquid Chromatography - HPLC, mass spectroscopy - MS and UV-VIS spectroscopy). The studies regarding the capsaicin extraction and separation approaches are applied to assess the chemical and biological process engineering for obtaining some natural compounds valuables in different domains: medical, pharmaceutical, food industry. The future studies of Capsicum are very promising, especially for the new hybrids developed by tissue culture and biotechnology methods. Their high content of capsaicin with bright red colour will provide a cheap available source of valuable ingredients for industrial uses.

Two pretreatment methods (alkaline lyophilization and combined microwave - acid pretreatment) were employed in order to establish their efficiency on the transformation of the lignocellulosic biomass in fermentable sugars, an important stage in the bioethanol obtaining process. Three different types of sawdust (oak, fir and hemp) were used for comparison. The enzymatic hydrolysis reaction was carried out i5n the presence of Accellerase™ 1000 enzyme complex. The amount of fermentable sugars was determined by the colorimetric method with dinitrosalicylic acid.
