Embedded K nickel chrome-nickel silicon thermocouple was used to measure the grinding temperature of stainless steel in the cases of high-speed grinding while machining SUS304 Stainless Steel with vitrified CBN wheels in high speed grinding conditions.The energy partition is approximately 7.7% by matching the measured temperature to the analytically computed temperature. 3D FEM simulations for some typical grinding conditions are carried out.The error between the simulation analysis temperature results and the experimental results is approximately 3% on the grinding surface,and the error between the simulation analysis temperature results and the experimental results is approximately 10% below the grinding surface. © (2012) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland. Abrasive machining is an important process for the manufacturing of advanced ceramics. The demand for advanced ceramics with better quality and higher efficiency presents tremendous challenges for abrasive tools in the advanced ceramics industry. The concept of semi-fixed abrasive machining with a newly developed semi-fixed abrasive tool (SFAT) as machining tool is put forward. This paper presents an experimental investigation for SFAT wear into course of machining single crystal silicon with SFAT. Process parameters (water flow, load and velocity) influencing the SFAT wear are analyzed. In order to reduce or eliminate the surface defects caused by abrasive grains and improve the efficiency of ultra-precision processing, the technique of semi-fixed machining has been proposed for machining advanced ceramics. A semi-fixed abrasive tool (SFAT) has been manufactured; it has performances of semi-fixed machining technique. This document demonstrates wear characteristics of SFAT through experiments of machining silicon wafer. It showed that wet status or dry status of SFAT has greatly influenced wear characteristics of SFAT. In this paper, there are two kinds of material (cermet and cemented carbide) to be used. Different grinding conditions were performed for evaluation of RMS of acoustic emission(AE) signals and understanding the effect of each grinding parameter on AE RMS during grinding process. A kind of on-line monitoring method based on wavelet analysis and acoustic emission was raised and the nonlinear relation model between AE RMS,wavelet energy coefficients and wheel passivation state was built. During the process,the wavelet analysis method was used to decompose the original signals for extracting wavelet energy coefficients. The results of experiments indicates that AE RMS increases with increasing table speed;The corresponding relation between AE RMS and table speed is good and could take the table speed as the main parameter for studying wheel passivation state. As a result, the nonlinear relation model can monitor the wheel passivation degree on-line accurately through training. This provides a kind of viable method which has very high practical value for confirming the wheel dressing cycle. © 2011 Trans Tech Publications. Source

The mechanism of material removal in the process of polishing was discussed. The research results about jet machining system and platform were introduced. The development of mathematical model of abrasive fluid jet were described, including speed change model, material removal model, surface evolution model, surface roughness model, numerical simulation model. The effect laws of some major process parameters such as particle energy, jet pressure, abrasive, jet angle, stand-off distance, additive on machining results were analyzed, and the research progresses of abrasive jet polishing technology were summarized, and the probable further research was forecasted. © 2015, China Mechanical Engineering Magazine Office.
