Epoxy resin chemical grouting agents are widely used in the treatment of weak foundations and concrete cracks, especially the ones in alpine areas, it is important for the epoxy resin grouting agents with excellent performance at low temperature. The main agent of epoxy resin was modified by micromolecule formulating method and then a sulfhydryl modified low temperature curing agent was prepared in this paper. The epoxy resin chemical grouting agents with good groutability and curing effect were prepared and suitable for low temperature. Then the properties of grouting agents with different compositions were studied at - 8°C. This kind of grouting agent would had a widely application in treatment with weak foundations and concrete cracks at the temperature below 0 °C.

The Three Gorges Project, with maximum dam height of 181 m, has been designed for water level storage. During the design and construction period of the dam: (1) Distinctive geological exploration, a variety of stability calculation method of comparative analysis and comprehensive engineering measures have been applied to solve the left bank dam stability against deep sliding; (2) Arranging multilayer outlets to satisfy flood discharge of large flow with multiple tasks, orifice reinforcement is based on FEM; (3) Aggregate secondary-cooling, individual water filling system and surface heat preservation are adopted for temperature control and crack prevention of the dam; (4) Rich slurry concrete permeability control and embedded cooling pipe are used in the construction of roller compacted concrete; and, (5) Closed pump drainage and no cover load consolidation grouting are used for foundation treatment. We put forward the relevant problems needed to be further studied on the aspects of longitudinal joint structural integrity of the high gravity dam, dam heel stress and stress control criterion of dam, seismic damage mechanism by intensive earthquake and anti-seismic measures, etc. by analysis of longitudinal joint opening variation and the change rule of the dam heel stress due to the water level variation.

Aluminum nanoparticles were prepared by laser and inducting heating methods, then the phase, structure and thermal properties of them were characterized by X-ray diffraction, electron microscope and simultaneous thermal analyzer, respectively. The results showed that there was great difference between micro- and nanoparticles in oxidation behavior. Aluminum micron particles had a very strong endothermic peak at the temperature of about 660°C and the absorption heat enthalpy is 328J/g.The release heat enthalpies of aluminum nanoparticles oxidized by oxygen are 4.219 kJ/g and 3.584 kJ/g. Because of the size decreases to nano-size, the aluminum nanoparticles can be oxidized directly by oxygen and release a large amount of heat, which is beneficial to the propellants when it been burn. However, the micro-particles should absorb heat which other components released, and release heat slowly after melted, which are not as good as the nano-ones. © (2013) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

The types and addition dose of zinc in the zinc-rich coating have a significant impact on the character of coating. Two types of the zinc powders and the amount of zinc were researched in this paper. It reveals that flaky zinc coating is better than the spherical zinc coating on corrosion performance, and the performance of the coating will be the best only when the solid content of zinc is reasonable. The results also show that optimal solid content of flaky zinc are 62.5%, 60% and 60.5% in the inorganic zinc-rich coating, epoxy zinc-rich coating and vinyl resin zinc-rich coating, respectively. © (2013) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

Silver particles were easily synthesized in the presence of PVP by quickly adding concentrated ascorbic acid solution into the silver complex solution ([Ag(NH3)2]+). By varying the addition of organic solvents to the reaction system, it was found that highly dispersed spherical silver particles with different sizes were obtained. The effects of different kinds of silver seeds on the size-controlled synthesis of silver particles were also discussed. The as-prepared silver particles were investigated by electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction. A mechanism explaining the size-controlled formation of silver particles was proposed. © Springer Science+Business Media New York 2012.
