In this article, a new coumarin-hydrazone based Cu2+ fluorescence sensor (L2) has been prepared. The sensor displays a rapid and a linear response to Cu2+ with a 6-fold turn-off signal with a K a of 0.1 μM in aqueous solution. L2 also shows a highly selective fluorescence response to Cu2+ over other transition metal ions. The intracellular Cu2+ imaging ability on MCF-7 cells demonstrates that L2 is an effective Cu2+ imaging agent. © 2013 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Nonlinear Analysis: Real World Applications | Year: 2013

In the real world, many networks show community structure, i.e., clusters of nodes, which have a high density of links within the same cluster but a lower density of links between different clusters. In this paper, nonlinearly coupled networks with community structure and non-identical nodes and with time-varying delay are considered. By applying pinning control to a fraction of network nodes, and using a suitable Lyapunov function, we obtain some new and useful synchronization criteria, which guarantee that various clusters are synchronized independently. An example is presented to show the application of the criteria obtained in this paper. © 2012 Published by Elsevier Ltd.

A new ratiometric fluorescent sensor for Cu2+, WLN, has been developed via integrating a 1,8-naphthalimide fluorophore with 8-aminoquinoline. WLN exhibits a highly selective ratiometric response to Cu2+ over other transition metal ions in aqueous media. Moreover, its practical ratiometric imaging ability for intracellular Cu2+ has been confirmed in human breast adenocarcinoma cells (MCF-7 cells) using a confocal microscope. © 2012 American Chemical Society.

A newly developed fluorescent sensor, Naph-BPEA, shows a specific turn-on response to Zn2+ and can be excited by visible light. The in situ nuclear Zn2+ imaging in HeLa and HepG2 cells reveals the nuclear envelope penetrability of the sensor. An acyclic edge coloring of a graph is a proper edge coloring without bichromatic cycles. The acyclic chromatic index of a graph G, denoted by α′(G), is the minimum number k such that G admits an acyclic edge coloring using k colors. Let G be a plane graph with maximum degree Δ and girth g. In this paper, we prove that α′(G)=Δ(G) if one of the following conditions holds: (1) Δ≥8 and g≥7; (2) Δ≥6 and g≥8; (3) Δ≥5 and g≥9; (4) Δ≥4 and g≥10; (5) Δ≥3 and g≥14. We also improve slightly a result of A. Fiedorowicz et al. (2008) [7] by showing that every triangle-free plane graph admits an acyclic edge coloring using at most Δ(G)+5 colors. © 2010 Elsevier B.V.

The paper describes the design and implementation of a tiny educational operating system, Qutenix. With Linux and GNU tool chain as the developing tool, the system consists of only 5,000 lines of source code (excluding comments). Being compatible with Linux, implemented more than 30 system calls, and able to run on real hardware (X86 based PCs), it can use the shell command files and gcc compiling system of Linux 0.11 directly. With the simple structure, easy intelligibility, and tiny scale, it is suitable for operating system course teaching and experimentation in undergraduate computer major. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2012.

A mitochondria-targeted fluorescent sensor (Mito-ST), constructed by integrating a sulfamoylbenzoxadiazole fluorophore with a phosphonium group, displays the specific Zn 2+-induced hypsochromic shifts of both excitation (69 nm) and emission (35 nm) maxima. Its ratiometric Zn 2+ imaging ability via dual excitation mode has been applied in MCF-7 cells to clarify the different behaviours of mitochondrial Zn 2+ release stimulated by H 2O 2 and SNOC. © 2012 The Royal Society of Chemistry.

A competitive immunosensor using CdSe quantum dots (QDs) as a label was highly proposed for the detection of a tumor marker. CdSe QDs were characterized by transmission electron microscope image, photoluminescence spectra and ultraviolet-visible absorption spectra. The fabrication process of the immunosensor was traced with electrochemical impedance spectra. Using α-fetoprotein (AFP) as a model, a simple electrochemiluminescence immunosensing platform based on CdSe QDs using competitive binding between conjugated antibody-CdSe QDs and free AFP with immobilized AFP on Au electrode was developed. Under the optimum conditions, the proposed electrochemiluminescence method could detect AFP ranging from 0.05 to 100 μg/L with a detection limit of 0.005 μg/L. The proposed immunosensor showed good analytical performance and was successfully applied to detecting level of AFP in human serum samples, which would provide a new and promising direction for clinical application. © 2012 Elsevier B.V.
